You’ll have breakfast at around 6.30 am (if you’re to go for the morning shift starting at 8.00 am) or lunch at 12.30 pm (if you’re to go for the afternoon shift which starts at 2.00 pm). After breakfast or lunch, you’ll be briefed by our company guide who will take you through your tour. You’ll then start your 1-day Ngamba Island Chimps tour by driving to the Lake Victoria shore in Entebbe from where you’ll board a boat and cruise to Ngamba Island situated 23 km offshore.

You’ll take either a speed boat or a traditional motorized canoe depending on the weather and your preference. The speed boat takes about 45 minutes while the traditional boat takes about 90 minutes. On arrival, you’ll be directed to the visitor’s center where you’ll receive a personal orientation by a chimpanzee caregiver who will introduce you to the project, its history, the 49 resident Chimpanzees, and their plight. Thereafter you move to view the feeding of the Chimpanzees from the visitors’ raised platform area along the edge of the sanctuary fence. The chimps come out from the forest at the designated feeding times. They are accustomed to the feeding times and will come close to the fence for supplementary feeding. Should the caregivers delay bringing the fruits and vegetables, you will hear noises from the chimps as though to remind the caregivers of feeding time.

After the visit to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary you will board your boat back to the starting shore then have an optional visit UWEC-Uganda Wild Life Center where you’ll be welcomed by freelance monkeys that bless the compound, many tree species natural and the man planted, the architecture its self but most impressive are the close to 20 waterbird species that beautify scenery and view of Lake Victoria and the shores.
