We will proceed to Kibale National Park where we will engage in a Chimpanzee tracking expedition on foot in their natural habitat. You will head off to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drives and a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary en route
Welcome to East Africa! Your fantastic 10 days Uganda Rwanda primate trekking safari with gorillas, chimps & wildlife will kick off with an early morning breakfast at your hotel at 6:00am.After breakfast you will be met by your Prime safari driver guide for briefing about the trip in general, what to expect as well as the dos and don’ts of the countries you will be visiting. He will later fully prepare you for the day’s journey to Murchison Falls National Park.
The drive is about 7-8 hours long covering 310km but time will fly by; it’s just so beautiful here! We are going to enjoy a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda to see the near-threatened Southern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) in the wild. The experience of seeing a rhino on foot a few meters away from you is an experience you will never forget and hence we will start our mammal and bird trip lists with a bang today!
This super exciting start of our safari will be followed by lunch at nearby Kabalega dinners, and if you want to try some of the local Ugandan cuisine this is your first real chance. After lunch you make your way to Murchison falls where you will engage in a miniature game drive as you head to your lodge.
After freshening up (and maybe enjoying a dip in the pool) we will get together for a sumptuous three-course dinner and a good night’s rest under the stars in Africa.

Day 2: Do morning game drive and afternoon Nile launch cruise, hike to the top of the falls
We will start the day with an early breakfast, and then we set off on our first real game drive in the northern section of the park which contains savannah grass lands, dotted borassus palms, acacia trees and riverine woodland. We look out for lions, leopards, African Buffaloes, African Elephants, the Rothschild subspecies of Giraffe, Spotted Hyaena, Common Warthog, the taxonomically interesting Jackson’s Hartebeest and other African gem lasting for 3- 4 hours.
We have a small siesta, enjoy a picnic lunch and later embark on a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile with possibilities of sighting wonderful crocodiles and hippos along with elephants, waterbucks and Uganda kobs’ drinking water on the river side. Blessed with a variety of bird species such as the pelican bee-eaters, Egyptian geese, Hornbills, goliath herons, the rare shoebill, stork kingfishers and cormorants. You will be welcomed by a thunderous roar of the mighty Murchison falls as they tumble from a 43 meter fall.
You will embark on a 45 minute hike to the top of the falls, a world’s most phenomenal waterfalls. The 50 metres wide river forces itself through a rocky gap less than 8 meters wide before falling 45 meters to what has been termed the “devil’s cauldron” below, forming a plume of spray marked by a thunderous roar and permanent rainbow. After this incredibly exciting activity we will return to the lodge for dinner and some time to socialize and relax.
Highlight of the day: An afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of the Murchison Falls.

Day 3: Undertake a morning Nile Delta boat cruise safari.
On the 3rd day of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda primate trekking safari with gorillas, chimps & wildlife, you will undertake a morning Nile Delta boat cruise safari on the mighty River Nile. The day begins early in the morning at 6:00am in order to be ready for 7:00am set off to the delta point. The Victoria Nile delta, a 20km voyage downstream from Paraa, is home to rare wetland birds including shoebill and papyrus endemic species, one of the best sporting sites in Uganda, the shoebill is definitely one of the highlights for every bird watcher coming to Uganda and the delta boat trip offers the best chances of seeing this majestic bird.
The large bird with its prehistoric look fascinates many bird lovers. These solitary birds with the massive shoebill stork can grow up to 150 cm and weigh up to 14 pounds. You also stand a chance of seeing lots of different animals including elephants and great chances of seeing the elusive leopards resting up in the trees after their busy night schedules.
You later reunite with your Prime safari guide and transfer back to the lodge for relaxation in the afternoon.
Highlight of the day: Sighting of the Shoebill stock in the prime wetland thick marshes of the Nile River, Uganda’s most sought after bird.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park. Whole day drive
The 4th day of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda primate trekking safari with gorillas, chimps & wildlife is for your transfer from Murchison Falls Park to Kibale National Park. This day begins early in the morning at 6:00am in order to enable you cross with the 7:00am Ferry and then begin your thrilling road drive through the countryside’s of Uganda as you proceed to your next destination Kibale national park.
This impressive drive takes you through numerous villages giving you an insight into how ordinary Ugandans live. During the drive, look out for sightings of men and women engaging in several economic activities such as brick laying, drying grains and women carrying fire wood, this drive takes about 7-8 hours covering a distance of about 320km. Breaks will be made along the way to enjoy scenery viewing and take photos as you drive through the colorful countryside.
Upon arriving in Fort Portal Area, you will settle for lunch at one of the best restaurants in town. In fact, some people say it is the best place to eat in all of Uganda! There are myriad options to choose from, with things like local food buffet, crocodile burgers, Guinness beef stew and 46 different pizzas on the menu! Bon appetite!
Highlight of the day: The fantastic views south to the Albertine Rift area, marked with incredible steep escarpments.

Day 5: Do Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast we will gather at the Kanyanchu Tourism Centre in Kibale to do our Chimpanzee trekking activity which begins promptly at 8am. The encounter commences with a briefing from the excellent park rangers who will be our guides for the activity. After the briefing, we head to the forest in search of man’s closest relative.
The activity lasts about 3 to 4 hours and over the years have had a 95% success rate of seeing some of the 1,450 individuals in Kibale. The chimps have been fully habituated and thus offer you an opportunity to draw quite close to them and take pictures. Viewing them as they munch fruit, swinging in trees, socializing, patrolling, mating and making hooting calls is an unforgettable experience that you will treasure forever.
You have a full hour to enjoy these precious creatures and you are free to take as many photos as you wish! After our amazing Chimpanzee trek we will return to the starting point where we will enjoy our packed picnic lunch and catch our breaths after all the excitement. We then embark on the day’s journey further south towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is a 2 to 3 hour drive with incredibly scenic views en route.
Highlight of the day: Viewing the Chimps up close as they munch fruit, swing in trees, make hooting calls is an unforgettable experience.

Day 6: Do morning game drive, afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise & evening game
We start our day with an early breakfast at 6:00am at the camp and then we are off to the park for our game drive this morning through the Kasenyi Plains which will give us a chance to tick some impressive African big game species, including African Elephant, African Buffalo, Kob, Bushbuck, Hippopotamus, Forest Hog, Common Warthog, Nile Crocodile, Spotted Hyaena, Leopard and various smaller creatures.
This section, apart from the great wildlife, is also one of the prettiest in the park, especially in the golden light of the morning and various smaller creatures not forgetting the avian life here that may include African Hobby, Rüppell’s Vulture, Bateleur, Brown Snake Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Grey Kestrel, African Fin foot, along with many others. After 3- 4 hours of game drive we will return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.
In the afternoon, we have another fantastic activity planned, an afternoon boat cruise starting at 2pm. The boat cruise on the Kazinga channel a 42 km long channel that connects Lake George to Lake Edward, will get you close to the highest concentration of Hippos, over 1000 individuals and the Nile crocodiles basking along the shores of the channel we afterwards do a short game drive along the channel track as we head back to the lodge. We will relax and have dinner, chatting about trips we would all like to do in the future to exhaust places on the planet.
Highlight of the day: The Kazinga channel boat cruise is a real must-do activity when visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 7: Game drive in Ishasha and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
We will start with a relaxed breakfast at 7:00am and then pack our bags to check out. We will depart Queen Elizabeth National Park and head even further south. Before leaving the park we will undertake a game drive in the Ishasha sector in the Rukungiri District in search of the famous tree climbing Lions, which tend to lie on fig tree branches scanning the plains for prey.
This is also the only area in the park to see Tsessebe (Topi subspecies) and Sitatunga. We then exit Queen Elizabeth National Park and continue towards our next park, the world famous Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. We will enjoy lunch somewhere along the route and reach our destination in the evening.
Composed of 321 km2 (124 sq mi) of both montane and lowland rainforest accessible only on foot due to the improbable steepness, Bwindi was gazetted as a National Park in 1991 and declared a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in 1994. It is an amazing piece of land; it survived the last Ice Age (about 15,000 years ago) when most other forests in Africa disappeared. In the local language (Runyakitara), Bwindi actually means ‘impenetrable.’
We will get together for a scrumptious dinner, to update our trip lists and socialize. Then we are off to bed for a good night’s rest, for tomorrow we go gorilla trekking!

Day 8: Do Mountain Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After an early morning breakfast at 6:30am on this day of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda primate trekking safari with gorillas, chimps & wildlife, depart from the lodge with your packed lunch and gather at the park headquarters by 8:00am where you will be welcomed by the park sector warden who will take you through the history of gorilla conservation in this particular park sector and Bwindi park in general.
With our armed ranger in the lead, embark on a trek, searching for your allocated gorilla family. You will be granted a full hour with these magical beings to watch them as they go about their daily lives and if you’re lucky you might get to see the young gorillas break the 7-meter rule as they get closure to you to have you incorporated in their games. After the full hour contact with these gorillas transfer back to the park center where you get awarded a Gorilla tracking certificate for your tracking efforts.
From here, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi where you get to relax from the rather a bit tedious gorilla trekking experience. On arrival to this beautiful tropical gem of the Kigezi highland, the beauty of this lake will fascinate you and that this comes from the numerous islands that are dotted all over it. You will enjoy a relaxed boat cruise on the serene waters of Lake Bunyonyi as you explore several of its 29 islands.

Day 9: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda, visit Iby Iwacu village
This day is fairly relaxed as you get to wake up a little bit late at 8:00am for breakfast and a cup of Ugandan coffee at the deck after which you will embark on your 3-4 hour transfer to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park via the magnificent Kigezi highlands usually referred to as the Switzerland of Africa‘
We will cross the Uganda – Rwanda border after lunch, heading to Ruhengeri which is also marked by magical Virunga mountain chain that comprises of eight (7) mountains. Upon your arrival to Ruhengeri, you will engage in a cultural thriller as you get to visit the Iby’ iwachu community center a native Rwandese community. Iby’ iwachu means “Treasures of our home and community”. It exhibits all Rwanda’s culture, traditions, people and history giving you a unique personal experience. While here you will have an opportunity to learn ancient hunting skills, try weaving baskets/mats, carpentry.
The welcoming dancers and drummers will fascinate you with their unique high jumping and arm waving dance strokes. You will have an opportunity to sit among the locals, be taught how to grind millet and sorghum on the local grinding stone to make food, cycle a wooden bicycle around the village, shoot arrows with the Rwandese people, listen to village elders explain their traditions. You will dress as a king or Queen during the visit to the King’s palace. The guide will lead you on a tour of the local school and the various local art shops selling local paintings, woven clothes, beautiful pots, jewelry, baskets etc.

Day 10: Do Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali for a city tour
Unfortunately our wonderful trip has almost come to an end. However, there is one more very special primate we need for our lists…the Golden Monkey!
After having breakfast at 6:30am, we will transfer to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park at Kinigi for briefing after which you will head to the trailhead and embark on the search for the golden monkeys that tend to dwell in the Bamboo Zone.
The Golden monkey tracking experience tends to last 4 hours and this includes one full hour of direct viewing. It is an exciting experience as you explore this golden-backed monkeys jumping from stem to stem of the Bamboo and playing hide and seek games. After returning to the park center , you begin your drive back to Kigali City 120km about 2-3 hours’ driving through the impressive views of the scenic Rwandan hills en’ route for your flight back home.
Highlight of the day: Spending time in the company of the old world monkeys, the Golden monkeys as they jump from one tree to another is magical to watch.

- Mountain gorillas sometimes nest far from the start of your gorilla trek; you should pace yourself and drink plenty of water.
- Eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be communicated.
- Bwindi being a tropical forest, it can rain anytime so we encourage you to carry a rain poncho
- Waterproof walking shoes or hiking boots are essential.
- Gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants
- Long trousers and long sleeved sweaters or shirts while in the forest to avoid insect stings.
- Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash
- Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge
- As you prepare to come for your Uganda gorilla adventure, please do some exercises so that you prepare your body for gorilla trekking which can last between 3-8 hours
- In case you can’t walk for a very long time, you shouldn’t really worry about not being able to do gorilla trekking because there are potters who can carry you throughout at a small extra cost.
- Carry your sunscreen lotion to keep your skin safe from the tropical heat & sun rays
- When you get to the gorillas, don’t make noise because this agitates the gorillas
