After a delicious breakfast at 8 am, set off on a scenic drive to Tarangire National Park. It is a drive of about 2½ hours in a southwesterly direction. You reach your lodge/camp in time for lunch. After lunch, have some time to relax and then you are off on your first game drive of the 11 days Tanzania safari tour!
Learn more about this wonderful park as you search for wildlife. Tarangire is an incredibly beautiful park, renowned for its exclusivity away from the crowds and huge elephant herds. It is named after the Tarangire River which provides the only permanent water for wildlife. Its grassy plains are dotted with towering baobabs – the bizarre ‘upside-down trees’.
Tarangire hosts some of Tanzania’s greatest concentrations of wildlife, especially during the dry season of June to September when vast herds of elephants, wildebeest, hartebeest, zebra, giraffe, Buffalo, Gazelles, and impala, file in large numbers to the banks of the river. Predators like lions, hyenas, and leopards are drawn like a magnet to this buffet of concentrated prey.

A spectacular part of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara’s rich variety of natural habitats are set around the soda lake, itself a haven for clouds of flamingos and other waterbirds. This is a paradise for birding enthusiasts! The forested valleys and open savannah plains support a large elephant population as well as giraffes, buffalo, and many antelope species. There are fewer predators but topping the list are Lake Manyara’s tree-climbing lions.
