Day 1: Transfer From Kampala/Entebbe To Murchison Falls National Park. Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary En Route.

Your 12 days Wildlife Safari in Uganda Trip departs from your place of stay/hotel in Entebbe or Kampala.

Our professional guide will pick you up at 6.30 am. Embark on a 311km (5-6 hours) drive northwest to Murchison Falls National Park. Pass traditional Ugandan villages and bustling towns and then branch off at Nakitooma in Nakasongola district after about a 115km (4-5 hours) drive. Divert from the main road for another 7km drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – home to Uganda’s only wild white rhinos. Ziwa is a conservation project by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to reintroduce rhinos into Uganda’s other protected areas.

Here, embark on a 2-hour rhino tracking on foot with an expert local ranger guide. It is an incredible experience to see these prehistoric-looking heavyweights on foot.

After rhino tracking, have lunch at nearby Kabalega dinner. After lunch, continue on a further 1-hour drive into Murchison Falls National Park. At 3,840km2, this Uganda’s largest park contains a variety of big game, antelopes, primates, and over 450 bird species. The longest river in the world, the Nile, flows through the heart of the park on its 6700km journey from Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean Sea. Day 2: Morning Game Drive & An Afternoon Nile Launch Cruise To The Bottom Of Murchison Falls.

Kicks off your day with a fresh cup of Ugandan coffee at the lodge at around 6.00 am.

Then go on an amazing 3-4 hours game drive in the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park. The drive will take you across the savannah, Borassus Palm Forest, and grassland down to Lake Albert. The area is home to Lions, Leopard, Hyena, Giraffes, Buffalo, elephants, Jackson Hartebeest, Oribi, Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs. The park has a wide variety of birdlife including the Secretary Bird, Black Chested Snake Eagle, Tawny, and Marshal Eagles Carmine, and Swallow-Tailed Bee-Eaters

After the game drive, return to your lodge for a rest and lunch before embarking on a thrilling three hours afternoon boat cruise along the Nile to the bottom of the falls. Starting from Paraa Jetty at 2 pm, the boat cruise takes you on the calm waters of the Nile, watching huge Nile Crocodiles basking in the sun, hippos submerged in water, as well as buffaloes wallowing and elephants showering at the riverbank. You also see hundreds of special water birds including Goliath herons, Kingfishers, Fish eagles, and – if you’re lucky – you can even see the iconic Shoebill.

You finally dock in a small bay a few meters away from the thundering waterfall. Day 4: Visit The Top Of Murchison Falls & Transfer To Kibale National Park.

Have your breakfast at the lodge at around 8.30 am.

Then embark on a drive to the top of Murchison Falls National Park to see these stunning waterfalls from a different perspective. Admire the world’s longest river as it crashes through the narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment before falling 45m to what has been termed the “devil’s cauldron” below, forming a plume of spray marked by a thunderous roar and a permanent rainbow.

After witnessing the spectacular falls, embark on a scenic 366km/6 hours drive southward to Kibale National Park. Pass green countryside of farms and traditional homesteads on the Albertine Rift escarpment. Enjoy a lunch stop in the beautiful town of Fort Portal, which is located in a lush, tea-growing region at the base of the mystic Mountains of the Moon.

After lunch, continue on a 1-hour drive south to Kibale Forest National Park – the best place to see wild chimpanzees in Africa. The chimps are commonly found feeding on fig tree fruits in the forest and have been habituated to humans since 1992. Kibale covers 776 km². This national park is home to numerous forest wildlife species, boasting the highest density and diversity of primates in Africa. Then transfer to Kanyanchu Tourism Centre in Kibale to do your Chimpanzee tracking activity which begins promptly at 8 am. Begin with a briefing from expert park rangers who will be your guides for the activity. After the briefing, head to the majestic rainforest in search of the man’s closest relative on foot.

Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda Kibale National Park Forest lasts about 2 to 5 hours and over the years has had a 95% success rate of seeing some of the park’s 1,500 Chimpanzees. There are also several other amazing wildlife you will see in Kibale’s lush flora as you track chimps. The park’s chimpanzees have been fully habituated, thus offering you an opportunity to draw quite close to them and take as many photos as you wish! You have a full hour to enjoy these marvelous creatures munching fruit, swinging in trees, socializing, patrolling, mating, and making hooting calls – an unforgettable experience that you’ll treasure forever.

After your amazing chimp encounter, return to the starting point to enjoy your packed picnic lunch and catch your breaths after all the excitement.

After lunch, the adventure doesn’t stop, as you visit Bigodi Community. Bigodi is located in the Toro Kingdom close to Kibale Forest. You will take a village walk to explore the daily life of the Batooro people. You will meet traditional healers, men making local banana beer, and visit Bigodi Women’s Group for handicrafts demonstrations. It is a group of 150 weavers who have been working together for more than 15 years to master their skills. They sell baskets, mats, bags, and jewelry made from local materials.

The income from these activities is invested in education, health, sanitation, and improving the livelihood of residents.

It is a 2-3 hours drive through a scenic area of crater lakes and rolling hills. Make a stop in Kasese on the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains – Africa’s tallest mountain range – to explore the Ruboni Community. Discover the cultural traditions of the Bakonzo people that have lived on the foothills of Rwenzori for centuries. Experience their way of life, the crops that they grow, their art and craft, not forgetting impressive music, dance, and drama.

After this encounter, continue on the drive to Queen Elizabeth Park, arriving at your lodge in time for a late lunch. After lunch, embark on an afternoon game drive to explore the stunning landscapes of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is Uganda’s most popular savannah reserve and with good reason! It is situated on the Equator on the scenic floor of the Great East African Rift Valley.

Your early morning game drive takes around 3-4 hours in Kasenyi plains. This section, apart from the great wildlife, is also one of the prettiest in the park, especially in the golden light of the morning. You have a chance to tick some impressive big games such as Elephants, Buffalos, Lions, Leopards, Hippos, Hyenas, and Giant Forest Hogs. There are also numerous antelopes such as Uganda Kobs, Bushbucks, Waterbucks, and other smaller creatures.

Day 8: Transfer To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Enjoy An En-Route Game Drive In The Ishasha Sector In Search Of Tree-Climbing Lions.

After breakfast at around 8.00 am, leave Queen’s savannah to head even further south.

Before leaving the park, enjoy a short game drive in the Ishasha sector trying to spot the plains’ famous tree-climbing lions. It is believed that these rare lions climb into trees to get away from the heat on the ground – the breeze is much cooler up in the branches! After seeing these brilliantly adapted creatures, exit the park and travel through the rolling hills of southwestern, small villages, plantations, and fields, on the way to your lodge in or near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Few things are more inspiring than standing on a hilltop in Bwindi and taking in the mist-swathed valleys, echoing with the haunting calls of exotic birds and primates. When you’ve made the effort to negotiate enough of the terrain to find yourself in the presence of a 220kg adult male Mountain Gorilla and his family, the encounter takes on a whole other level of intensity.

The 321km2 Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to half (459) of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas which live in family groups of 5 to 30 individuals. It protects 120 species of mammals, 351 bird species, 220 species of butterflies, and over 27 species of reptiles, as well as over 1,000 flowering plant species including 163 species of trees and 104 species of ferns.

You arrive at your lodge in the early evening and check in and relax. You will already feel the excitement to start to build for tomorrow’s activity. Day 9: Mountain Gorilla Trekking In Bwindi & Transfer To Lake Bunyonyi For Relaxation.

Today is the day you have been waiting for… the gorilla trek!

After big morning breakfast at around 6.00 am, transfer to the park headquarters to be briefed on the rules of gorilla trekking at 8.00 am. Then you and the other 7 trekkers will embark on a trek to see these beautiful, gentle giants of the forests. The trek takes 2-8 hours and is relatively difficult because of the steep slippery slopes and the high altitude. Your ranger guides will be coordinating with the advance trackers by radio to guide you into the gorilla’s last know location.

The trek will prove well worth it when you meet up with the gorilla family you’ve been assigned, the impact can be almost overwhelming. Baby gorillas are often very curious, and silverbacks are implausibly huge. The 60 minutes of watching, listening, and breathing in their forest home are utterly unforgettable. Quite simply, there is no other wildlife experience like this.

After the encounter, return to the starting point to receive your gorilla trekking certificates. Enjoy a packed picnic lunch and depart for Lake Bunyonyi, about 90 minutes away. Travel through the impressive Kigezi Highlands where locals apply a terracing method to cultivate their slopes, making for a fascinating scenic landscape. Arrive at Lake Bunyonyi in the late afternoon. Bunyonyi – meaning “place of many little birds” – is Africa’s second deepest lake, formed over 10,000 years ago when a river was dammed by lava. The beautiful lake is dotted with 29 islands.

Day 10: Whole Day Relaxation On Lake Bunyonyi.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at around 9.00 am.

You’re free to admire the beauty of the lake and its surrounding hills.

You also have a choice of taking a canoe ride on the lake to explore some of its major islands, discovering the exciting histories behind them. For example, you can visit the Akampane or Punishment Island, the place where unmarried girls who became pregnant would be exiled. Here, they faced one of two possible fates. Any man who did not own sufficient cows to pay for an untainted bride was permitted to fetch the disgraced girl from the island and make her his wife. Failing that, the girl would usually starve to death.

Alternatively, you can hike one of the hills around Lake Bunyonyi, swim in the lake, zipline across the lake, or go for a community walk and visit a local school.

Day 11: Transfer To Lake Mburo National Park. Have A Traditional Lunch Stop At Igongo Cultural Center & Do An Evening Game Drive Upon Arrival. Optional Night Game Drive.

Have breakfast at around 9.00 am and then leave Lake Bunyonyi for your final park of the trip.

Continue your 12 days Wildlife Safari in Uganda Trip with a drive northeast, through Uganda’s meandering landscape of rolling hills and lush banana plantations – known as one of the most scenic roads in the country. Passing mystical villages often veiled in mist, exchanging waves with friendly locals, and admiring the impressive Ankole cattle (their horns are unusually large), you’ll fully understand just why Uganda is such a hidden gem of a destination.

The drive all of the morning, and you will make a stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre and museum for a traditional lunch.

After lunch, drive to Lake Mburo National Park, a perfect overnight stop-over. Although the heavyweights such as elephants are missing, the great mix of wetland and woodland habitats makes for a wide range of Uganda mammals and Uganda birds, and Mburo’s tranquil atmosphere and soothing views provide welcome relief after a long Uganda safari.

Day 12: Morning Game Walk-In Lake Mburo National Park & Transfer Back To Kampala/Entebbe.

After your early morning breakfast at 6.30 am, undertake a nature walk, your last “safari activity” of your 12 Days Wildlife Safari in Uganda Trip. This is one of the most interesting game walks in Uganda, in a beautiful area with a knowledgeable local guide. On the walk look out for antelopes like Common Eland, Waterbuck, Impala, Topis, Bushbuck, and Klipspringer among others, as well as Hyaena, Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra, and Warthog. All this in a beautiful savannah landscape dotted with great Acacia trees.

After the walk, embark on a 240km/3 to 4 hours drive to Entebbe. However, there is one more surprise in store! Make a stop at the Ugandan Equator crossing at Kayabwe, where you can stand with one leg in the Northern hemisphere while the other remains in the Southern! It makes for great photographs and memories. It is also an impressive site for purchasing memorabilia to take back home as a memento of this incredible safari in Uganda.
