The park is named after the Tarangire River which provides the only permanent water for wildlife. Its grassy plains are dotted with the Mythical Upside Down Trees.

Tarangire hosts a dense wildlife population, particularly during the dry season: June to September. During this time when the sun has baked all moisture from the surrounding landscapes, massive herds of elephants, wildebeests, hartebeests, zebras, Giraffes, gazelles, buffalos, and impalas, file in great numbers to the receding banks of the river. Your destination today is the Serengeti National Park, one of the oldest ecosystems on earth. The Serengeti is home to Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife and it is famous for the Great Migration, the largest terrestrial mammal migration on Earth.

On arrival, enjoy a game drive as you continue to your lodge or camp in central Serengeti. Have a packed lunch en route, so as to not cut into your game viewing time in this part of the Serengeti.

The area forms part of “the Great Migration” and is home to the Seronera River Valley one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Cats (lions, leopards, and cheetahs) on thrilling hunts. Reach your camp or lodge in the late afternoon for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Explore the beautiful Seronera River Valley. The scenic landscape of this pristine valley is truly magnificent. Endless savanna grasslands stretch beyond the horizon. Winding rivers meander through pools, seasonal swamps, and open fields. The flat-topped acacia trees rise above the plains and enormous granite kopjes loom in the distance, forming a classic image of typical Africa.

During the Great Migration, approximately 2 million wildebeests, gazelles, and zebras pour through the valley in a thunder of echoing hooves and a haze of red dust. But, the true beauty of Seronera is that no matter what time of year you might venture here, a whole world of life, drama, action, and wonder await! It is the best place in Africa to observe lions, hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs in action!

Serengeti or Siringeti means “Endless Plains” in the Maasai language. Great stretches of grassland studded with flat-topped Acacia trees give the Serengeti that classic “Out of Africa” feel. Many people assert that the sunsets in the Serengeti are the most spectacular on Earth.

Serengeti National Park is also home to the greatest remaining concentration of plains animals in the world. Massive herds of Buffalos, Wildebeest, Zebra, Gazelle, Topi, Elephant, Impala, and Waterbuck are often seen followed by packs of African Wild Dog, Prides of Lion (the population here is over 3,000), Cheetah, Jackals, Leopard (over 1,000) and Spotted Hyaena (almost 9,000 in number).
