Drive to the wonderful Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Forest for a trek through the dense jungle to find a family of gorillas going about their day, each with its personalities, from cocky adolescents and wise mothers to young ones rolling through the bamboo under the ever-watchful eye of a dominant male, called Silverback. Also, enjoy a cultural performance from the Batwa (pygmy) people.
Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a park of diverse landscapes with rolling savannah, acacia woodland, lakes, rivers, wetlands, rainforest, and extinct volcanic crater cones with lakes. Arrive and get the milking equipment, including the tying rope and the milking pot, to actively participate in the traditional hand milking of the world-famous Ankole long-horned cattle.
From milking, participate in sick animal treating, caring for cows like brushing their body using the locally made fiber brush known as Enkuyo, and then set out to grade in the wilderness. Enjoy the stimulating sounds that are made by the herdsmen as they get out to the grazing field. Be mesmerized by the cows; they know how to align themselves, forming a line headed by those that have the special character of leading others.
Retreat from the encounter and visit the traditional hut where you find the women churning milk in the churning gourd. From here, you can explore the extensive banana plantations where you learn about various banana types and their respective use. You can participate in pruning and weeding using local methods and then participate in initial arrangements for traditional lunch.
Take a break from that and rush to the well with red soil that is used for smearing the soil-made water trough, smear the trough and fill it with water and then wait for the cattle to come and water them accordingly.
You can also opt to have a bull slaughtered and grilled traditionally for you, where you can also have it alongside the delicious local sauce that is made without fire, called Eshabwe. Join the women as they clean milk pots and smoke them with the help of handmade ceramic and specially chosen tree and grass Species, making crafts and calf pen arrangements.

Discover the culture-—ways, traditions, and history—of western Uganda. There are sculptures and charts that display a lot of history and the well-organized interpretation offered by the site guides makes it thrilling to encounter.
Retreat from the activity and continue on the scenic drive to Lake Bunyonyi. As you approach it, you see it snaking along the spectacular landscape. It is dotted with 29 islands of various shapes and sizes, surrounded by a ring of intensively terraced farms, their greenery accenting this mystical lake like a lovely frame and it is no wonder that Lonely Planet called it “A scene from Lord of the Rings.” The lake attracts a variety of birdlife—over 200 species, and the name Bunyonyi aptly means ‘place of many little birds. Otters are also frequently seen fishing in the lake.

Explore Bucuranuka (Upside down) Island, which is believed to have buried a group of male revelers who refused to share their abundant stock of beer with an old lady who had embarked on a canoe to join them. Unfortunately for the drinking party, the woman was a sorceress. She returned to her canoe, paddled a safe distance away, and then used her magical powers to overturn the island, drowning everybody in the party and then flipping it back the right way up as if nothing had happened.
Visit the Akampane (Punishment Island), where unmarried girls who became pregnant would be exiled. Here, they faced one of two possible fates. Any man who did not own sufficient cows to pay for an untainted bride was permitted to fetch the disgraced girl from the island and make her his wife. Failing that, the girl would usually starve to death.
There is also Bushara with its impressive forest cover and the eucalyptus forest, Kyahugye Island with its resort environment with wildlife including the Impala, Zebra, Debrazza monkey, and Waterbuck not forgetting the Njuyeera/Sharps Island, which is known as the traditional leprosy healing center. The hopping experience exposes you to the local life of the Island communities including the process of brewing local beer. Day 6 of the 14 Days Uganda Trip: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Bakiga Performances in the Evening at the Lodge.
This is a special day dedicated to mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda, a bucket list experience that naturalists from all over the world dream of doing! Have your breakfast at the lodge at 6.00 am and transfer to the respective park headquarters to get briefed by the expert local guides. At 8 am, you embark on an exhilarating trek within the impenetrable forest in search of these great mountain creatures. The wonderful 321 km² Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site inhabited by nearly half of the world’s population of Mountain gorillas, about 459 individuals at last count.
Gorilla trekking takes 2-8 hours, including the 1 hour of direct encounter with the gorillas. The trek is tiresome as the forest can be quite wet and the going fairly steep. But trust me, the bit of exercise is very well rewarded by meeting these incredible creatures. This is one of the most moving wildlife experiences in Africa—arguably in the world. Put down your camera and sit awhile, just observing their social rituals, the keenness of their relationships, and the depth and range of their emotions. There are only a few hundred of these gentle giants left on the planet, and watching them at the brink of potential extinction is, for many, a life-changing experience.
Although the gorillas are the highlight, other mammals that you can find on your trek include Black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, and Blue monkeys plus a believable number of birds. Following the trek, have a picnic lunch and return to the starting point for your gorilla trekking certificate. Retreat from the activity and transfer back to the lodge for relaxation. In the evening, you are treated to the thrilling traditional performances of the local tribal groups of the Bakiga and Batwa, depending on their preference. Their dances and songs are thrilling and would definitely make your evening colorful.

Retreat from the activity and embark on a heritage tour to Amabere cave, named after the live stalactite formation, Amabeere ga Nyinamwiru (literally breast of Nyinamwiru). The cave’s breast-like features are believed to have belonged to Nyinamwiru, the daughter of King Bukuku, who is said to have been so beautiful that no man could leave her alone. When the king became weary of receiving marriage proposals from unsuitable suitors, he took the extreme measure of cutting off his daughter’s breasts to make her less attractive.
However, even this was inadequate to discourage Nyinamwiru’s numerous admirers, so the king hid her away in the cave now known as Amabere. The Batembuzi King Isaza discovered her here and impregnated her with a son. Because she lacked breasts, Nyinamwiru remained in the cave with her baby, feeding him the cloudy limestone “milk” that drips from the cave’s stalactites. The boy who was nurtured by the stalactite formation grew up to become King Ndahura, the founder of the Bachwezi dynasty, which ruled over the Bunyoro Kitara Empire for centuries.
From the caves, hike the Fort Portal Crater field and summit the famous Kyeganywa hill for impressive views of the crater lakes and crater hollows below and the Rwenzori Mountains on a clear day. End your tour with a visit to the Christ Our Vision Child Care, where Prime Uganda Safaris supports counts of orphans, some of whom are HIV positive. Have a relaxation, dinner, and overnight.
