15 DAYS UGANDA BIRDING SAFARI ∣ 15 UGANDA BIRDING TOUR

15 Days Uganda Birding Safari – SAFARI OVERVIEW15 Days Uganda Birding Safari

Our 15 days Uganda birding safari is a 14 nights/15 days Uganda birding tour that has been carefully crafted to give you a wonderful, unforgettable bird watching experience in Uganda, the ‘Pearl of Africa’. This trip focuses on Uganda’s top birding destinations, offering superb scenery and game viewing experiences, as well as two boat cruises and one canoe ride. Uganda hosts over 1,073 bird species, 50% of Africa’s bird species and is the most accessible place to see the incredible, pre-historic like Shoebill. To find it, we’ll undertake on a canoe ride and explore the legendary Mabamba Swamp on the shore of Lake Victoria, Africa largest freshwater lake.

We then head northwest to Budongo Forest teeming with over 360 bird species including the endemic Puvel’s illadopsis and also a good selection of primates. We move to Murchison Falls National Park with over 451 bird species and 76 mammal species. Here we have another chance to see the iconic Shoebills on a boat cruise along the historic Nile River. We continue to Kibale National Park with over 375 bird species including the rare, elusive and beautiful Green-breasted Pitta, also best places in the world to see Chimpanzees in their natural habitat. We continue to the superb Queen Elizabeth Park with over 600 bird species, the largest checklist of any protected area in East Africa. Also over 96 mammal species have been recorded here including the rare tree-climbing lions.

Eventually, we travel onwards to the great Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage, hosting the most exciting selection of forest birds in Africa including 23 Albertine Rift endemics. Here we’ll search for the near mythical African Green Broadbill, Short-tailed warbler, handsome francolin, Bar-tailed trogon, Rwenzori turaco, Regal Sunbird and Strange Weaver plus more. It is even suggested that undescribed species might even be lurking in the park! Also the misty peaks and fern-loaded forests of Bwindi host almost half of the global population of the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Finally, before our 15 days Uganda birding safari draws to a close, we’ll visit Lake Mburo National Park, where we’ll look for the rare and localized Red-faced Barbet, as well as African Finfoot.

15 Days Uganda Birding Safari – GORILLA TREKKING TIPS

  •   Mountain gorillas sometimes nest far from the start of your gorilla trek, you should ready yourself for a long walk and drink plenty of water.
  •    Eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be communicated.
  •    Smoking while inside the forest is strictly forbidden
  •    Bwindi being a tropical forest, it can rain anytime so we encourage you to carry a rain poncho
  •    Waterproof walking shoes or hiking boots are essential.
  •    Gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants
  •    Long trousers and long-sleeved sweaters or shirts while in the forest to avoid insect stings.
  •    Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash
  •    Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge
  •    As you prepare to come for your Uganda gorilla adventure, please do some exercises so that you prepare your body for gorilla trekking which can last between 3-8 hours
  •    In case you can’t walk for a very long time, you shouldn’t really worry about not being able to do gorilla trekking because there are potters who can carry you throughout at a small extra cost.
  •    Carry your sunscreen lotion to keep your skin safe from the tropical heat & sun rays
  •    When you get to the gorillas, don’t make noise because this agitates the gorillas
