Day 2: Visit Samburu National Reserve, Afternoon Game Drive

Your day two of the 17 days Kenya Safari and Mombasa Beach Tour begins with an early breakfast at the hotel. You then depart from Nairobi for the remarkable wilderness of Samburu. You drive north, passing near Thika as you watch the scenery change from urban sprawl to the lush green countryside.

Proceed with your scenic drive north via Nanyuki. Stop off to stretch your lodges in the town of Isiolo, surrounded by hills and known for its large market. Samburu National Reserve is relatively a short drive from here.

Spanning 165km2 and watered by the muddy Uaso Ngiro River, Samburu is in a lowland region, so it is usually hot, arid, and dusty. It is also extremely scenic, with ravine sections dominated by acacia and doum palms.

The reserve is famous for its wildlife “Special Five”: Gerenuk (long-necked antelope), Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, and Common beisa oryx (antelope), but there are lots of other species as well: Grant’s gazelles, Hippos, Crocodiles, Dik diks, Kudus, Vervet monkeys, Hyenas, Elephants, Cheetahs, Leopards, and Lions are among them.

There are also some fascinating birds you can spot, including the colorful vulturine guinea fowls, Taita falcons, Secretary birds, and Palm-nut vultures. Day 3: Full-Day Game Drives In Samburu National Reserve. Evening Samburu Village Tour

Day 4: Travel to Lake Nakuru National Park, Afternoon Game Drive

After a leisurely breakfast on day four of your 17 Days Kenya Safari & Mombasa Beach Tour, you will leave Samburu National Reserve behind and drive south via Isiolo, traveling past the northernmost foot slopes of the snow-capped Mount Kenya – Africa’s second tallest mountain, until you reach Nanyuki.

Then you go northwest to Nyahururu before turning south to your next destination, the spectacular Lake Nakuru National Park on the Great Rift Valley floor. After entering the park, look for wildlife on your way to your lodge. After freshening up, have a good lunch and a siesta before embarking on an afternoon game drive. You will head back to the lodge as the sun sets.

Lake Nakuru, known for its incredible birdlife, offers a possibility to view flamingoes and pelicans. The park is also an important sanctuary for Black and White rhinos, as well as the endangered and rare Rothschild Giraffes.

A zig-zagging road through scrub thorn and acacia leads you into Tsavo National Park, which together (East and West) forms one of the world’s largest protected wilderness areas, covering over 2 million hectares.
