2 Days Agricultural Tour in Uganda – DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1 of the 2 Days Agricultural Tour in Uganda: Explore the Bukalasa Agricultural Research Station.

Begin the day with an early breakfast at 6.00 am at your place of stay in Kampala. After breakfast, embark on a 53 km (1½ hours) drive to Bukalasa Agricultural Centre. You follow the Kampala – Gulu Road (smooth tarmac) to Wobulenzi town in Luweero District in the Central Region of Uganda.

Luweero was the site of a fierce insurgency by the rebel group National Resistance Army and a brutal counter-insurgency by the government of Milton Obote, known as the Luweero War or the “Bush War” that left many thousands of civilians dead during the early to mid-1980s. The area affected by the war has come to be known as the Luweero Triangle.

From Wobulenzi town, branch off to proceed to Bukalasa about 5km on murram road driving through the impressive countryside landscapes exploring the local farming practices before arriving at Bukalasa. Upon arrival, you undertake a tour of the agricultuaral center. The center acts as the agricultural hub of Uganda serving as a center of research about animal and crop husbandry not forgetting the agricultural soils.

The center dates far back to 1920 when it was established as a Cotton Breeding Center during the colonial era and has since evolved to become a center of significance in the country. The tour to the projects being undertaken and the accomplished ones including the crop and animal interbreeding, the new farming practices, the soil–crop matching, the palatable and highly nutritious pastures for livestock among others.

This a whole day study tour that will not only make your encounter memorable but also reward you with remarkable knowledge that you can apply to your farm to teach to others for impressive results. After the encounter, you embark on the drive back to Kampala for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2 of the 2 Days Agricultural Tour in Uganda: Visit the Jesa Farm Diary in Busunju.

Wake very early today for breakfast at around 6.00 am at your hotel in Kampala. After breakfast, embark on a 50km drive Northwest of Kampala to JESA Farm Diary, an established modern dairy farm currently the best in Uganda. This great dairy farm saw its beginning in the year 1989 by the late Dr. James Mulwana.

The farm has transformed from the sale of raw milk to the processing and sale of a wide range of dairy products including fresh pasteurized milk, yogurt, UHT milk, fresh cream, and butter presenting great quality taste and innovation. The Jesa Farm supports a count of 650 Friesian Cattle which are kept under the advanced animal husbandry and importantly the great count of animal feed is produced at this farm.

Jesa Farm also features a dairy plant that processes all the milk got from the farm and a count of 100,000 liters of milk are processed per day without sourcing raw milk from a range of 150 out-growers close to the farm and beyond subject to meeting the quality standards. Jesa also offers extension services in terms of milk handling, quality bulls, and vaccines.

The JESA is among the two ISO food safety standards certified in Uganda along with being Halal certified which makes all its products carry the Q mark system of UNBS. Thus your day visit to JESA Farm is a great livestock agricultural encounter that you can ever have in Uganda. Retreat from the encounter and embark on a transfer back to Kampala to mark the end of your 2-day agricultural safari in Uganda.
