21 Days Uganda Safari Tour – DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer To Jinja. Visit Ssezibwa Falls, Mabira Forest & Enjoy A Source Of The Nile Boat Cruise
You’ll be picked up from Kampala at 6.30 am so that you avoid the morning traffic jam in the city and be able to do all the day’s activities in time without rushing. Your highlight of the day was the source of the Nile boat cruise in Jinja.
However, along the way, you visit 2 interesting spots, beginning with Ssezibwa Falls, a beautiful tranquil waterfall that is a key cultural heritage site in Buganda. Take a guided trek for an hour to explore the waterfalls and surrounding wildlife, as well as learn about the cultures and customs related to the waterfalls.
Then continue to Mabira Forest, which is home to a variety of monkeys, birds, and butterflies. Go on a 2-hour forest walk to get up close to beautiful nature. After Mabira, continue to Jinja and have lunch by the Nile. After lunch, you’ll take a boat trip to the Source of the River Nile – the world’s longest river.

Day 3: Sipi Falls Hike & Coffee Tour Experience.
After breakfast at 8 am, start your Sipi Falls hike. Sipi is made up of a series of 3 beautiful waterfalls created by the Sipi River as it cascades downstream from the top of Mt Elgon into the Kyoga Basin.
You’ll hike to each of the waterfalls, beginning with the topmost coming down to the last one, which is the biggest falling 100m. The trek to each of the 3 waterfalls covers about a 7km trail and can be done in 3 hours on average.
Return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. Then, go on the coffee tour to learn about the entire coffee process at a nearby family farm. Pick the coffee berries, deshell and grind them with a traditional mortar and pestle, and roast them on an open fire, before – the best part – finishing with a fine cup of strong Arabica coffee.

Day 4: Drive To Kidepo National Park Via Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve.
Wake up for an early breakfast at 6.30 am.
Begin your long drive northeast to Kidepo. After about an hour’s journey from Sipi Falls, visit Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve for your first safari experience. Pian Upe is one of the unspoiled Uganda safari spots, yet to be explored.
Go on a game drive to witness the wildlife, and some of the wildlife you’ll encounter include zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes. If you’re lucky, you might spot a Cheetah. After the safari in Pian Upe, continue driving to Kidepo. Arrive in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 5: Unlimited Game Drives In Kidepo National Park.
Enjoy a good breakfast at 6 am. Then go on a game drive in Kidepo, which is home to a variety of wildlife species that cannot be seen in any other park in Uganda such as Ostriches, Cheetahs, Aardwolf, Bat-eared Fox, Black-backed Jackal, Caracal, and Kudus. Other wildlife included Lions, Leopards Elephants, Buffalos, Zebra, Giraffe, Kob, Topi, Elands, Waterbuck, and nearly 500 bird species!
Your game drive starts in Narus Valley in the south of the park. The Narus Valley contains the permanent water sources of the park and is the greenest part of the park. It, therefore, has the most animals in Kidepo National Park.
Later, head to the Kidepo Valley in the north of the park which is dry compared to the south and has fewer animals. It is however a beautiful wilderness and has special features such as the dry river sandy beds, hot springs, and mountains.

In the afternoon, visit a large Karamojong homestead which is known as “Manyatta” for cultural encounters. The Karamojong people, who are closely related to the Masai of Kenya, continue to practice their traditional way of life, unaffected by modernization. Day 7: Travel To Murchison Falls National Park.
At 7 am after breakfast and depart Murchison Falls National Park. This will be a drive of 7-8 hours, through northern Uganda’s spectacular countryside.
You have lunch in Kitgum Town before arriving in Murchison in the late afternoon for relaxation, dinner, and overnight. Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest and oldest national park. This park is a great place for wildlife safaris in Uganda because it has so many animals and birds. It is bisected by the longest river in the world on which the world’s strongest waterfall is located.

Day 8: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Trip To The Bottom Of Murchison Falls.
At 6 am, after breakfast, go on a 4-hour game drive in Murchison Falls Park. Explore the beautiful northern section, which contains over 80% of the park’s animals. Look out for the towering Rothschild’s Giraffes, Cape Buffalos, African Elephants, Lions, Antelopes, Common warthogs, Patas Monkeys, Leopards, Spotted hyenas, etc.
Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
At 2 pm, set out for a leisurely 3-hour afternoon boat cruise upstream the Nile, spotting the river’s large populations of crocodile, hippo, waterbirds, as well as other wildlife like buffalo and elephants slaking their thirsts in the world’s longest river.
You’ll pause a little distance from the base of the falls or the Devil’s Cauldron, where you witness the 50m wide Nile River bursting through an 8m rocky gap, exploding into the world’s strongest waterfall! It’s an intimidating base!

At 7 am, go on a 5-hour morning boat cruise from Paraa to the delta area where the Victoria Nile flows into Lake Albert.
The delta is home to a variety of waterbirds species, but the ultimate prize is sighting prehistoric-looking shoebill stork.
This boat trip is also an excellent opportunity to explore the area’s beautiful scenery, many hippos, massive Crocs, and Elephants. You’ll meet the park guides by 7 am for briefing and at 8.00, you embark on a 2-5 hour trek in the forest to track chimps. You’ll spend one hour with the chimpanzees and return starting point for a packed picnic lunch.
In the afternoon, take a village walk through the Bigodi Community. Spend time with the friendly local people learning about the unique ways of life. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 13: Hike From The Base Of Rwenzori Mountains To Sine Camp At 2,596m
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at 6.30 am and go for your Rwenzori Mountains trek.
The adventure begins with a briefing with your guides at Kilembe (1,450m), before starting the trek at 8.30 am to Sine Camp at 2,596 meters.
You will hike through the tall trees of Afro Montane Forest Zone which hosts multitudes of birds and monkeys. At Sine Camp, you have wooden huts set between tall forest trees on a narrow ridge where you may sit and enjoy the beautiful forest while you look down at a long set of rapids and waterfall crashing over the rocks.
If you’re fit, you can proceed to Kalalama Camp at 3,134m where there are giant heathers. The camp also offers fantastic views of cliffs above, lowlands below, and Lake Edward in Queen Elisabeth NP.

If you slept at Kalalama Camp, you can hike a bit higher to observe the mosses growing on the ground before descending the mountain.
If you chose to stay in Sine Camp, you may either stroll straight down the forest path or trek up to Kalalama Camp to enjoy the views before returning to the park gate.
Debrief at base camp before continuing to Queen Elizabeth Park, Uganda’s most popular game park. The park features an incredible diversity of wildlife and landscapes, which include savannah grasslands, rainforests, acacia woodlands, sprawling grassy hills, lakes, and wetlands. Day 16: Crater Lake & Baboon Cliff View Drive. Then Transfer To The Southern Ishasha Sector, Home Of Tree-Climbing Lions.
After breakfast at 7.00 am, check out, and embark on a crater and Baboon Cliff view drive. You will follow a scenic route around the rims of extinct volcanic explosion craters filled, variously, with lakes, forest, and grassland.
You’ll explore the Katwe Salt Lake where a local community has been extracting salt for over 600 years.
Learn about the traditional salt mining process and continue on the drive to the baboon cliff where you will be able to view a variety of animals. Thereafter head south through the national park to the Ishasha Plains and enjoy a short game drive to spot the plains’ well-known tree-climbing lions.

Day 17: Morning Game Drive In Ishasha & Transfer To Bwindi National Park.
After an early breakfast at 7 am, undertake 3 hours morning game drive in Ishasha Sector. After the game drive, embark on a 4-hour drive to Bwindi National Park which is a dense jungle on rolling highlands.
This World Heritage Site is home to 459 gorillas of the world’s 1063 mountain gorillas, a variety of rare birds, and healthy populations of colobus monkeys. On arrival, check-in your lodge and relax, taking in the incredible views, or maybe stretch your legs with a birding walk in the lodge grounds.
You will then have your dinner, after which you are off to bed for a good night’s rest, for tomorrow you go gorilla trekking!

Day 18: Gorilla Trekking In Bwindi & Transfer To Lake Bunyonyi.
After breakfast at 6.30 am, transfer to park headquarters for briefing from ranger guides. At 8 am, embark on the once-in-a-lifetime experience of trekking mountain gorillas in the wild. Trekking takes 2-8 hrs.
The forest can be wet, muddy, and uncomfortable. However, the sheer thrill of coming across a habituated family group of gorillas, dominated by a giant adult male, known as Silverback, more than outweighs any difficulty. Day 19: Canoe Ride & Relaxation At Lake Bunyonyi.
After an early breakfast, go on a morning canoe excursion and island hopping on Lake Bunyonyi to enjoy the mystic views and relax in the cool weather.
Bunyonyi, which is dotted with 29 lush islands is the second deepest lake in Africa and one of the most beautiful as well. Visit some of the islands on the lake, learn about the traditions attached to them, and observe some nature. Bunyonyi is a local term that translates to “birds”, aptly named so as you’ll see the many birds.
After the canoe ride, spend the rest of the day resting.

Day 20: Relaxed Breakfast & Transfer To Lake Mburo NP.
Enjoy an early breakfast at 7 am, check out, and head back northeast towards the charming Lake Mburo National Park.
You break up your journey at Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara town for a traditional lunch and thereafter proceed your accommodation to the park.
After checking in, set out for 2 hours evening game drive. Lake Mburo is the smallest of the savannah parks but its diversity is very impressive. It contains many herbivores such as Giraffes, Zebras, Oribi, Impalas, Elands, Buffaloes, Waterbuck, Topi, Reedbuck, Bushbuck, Warthogs, Hippos, Sitatunga, etc. Leopards and Spotted hyenas are also abundant, but elusive.

The leave for Entebbe. You make a stopover at the Uganda Equator for some picture moments and also purchase some crafts before continuing to Entebbe International Airport to prepare for your departure flight.
