Day 1: Arrive At Kigali International Airport & Transfer To Volcanoes National Park

At Kigali Internation Airport, your tour driver guide will be there to welcome you to Rwanda. If your flight arrives early enough, then your guide can take you on the Kigali city tour. Kigali is safe and clean.

Once a month, residents undertake ‘Umuganda Day’ when they engage in compulsory cleaning of all aspects of the city. It is taken seriously, and Rwandans are justifiably proud of their capital. As a means of combatting litter and pollution, all forms of plastic bags are prohibited in the country.

The city tour visits key attractions in the city, including the Genocide Memorial, a place for remembrance and learning about what happened in Rwanda in 1994.

From Kigali, embark on a scenic 2-3 hour drive northwest, through the beautiful rolling green hills that characterize this region of Rwanda. Your accommodation will be in Musanze near Volcanoes National Park headquarters. This stunning 160km² park contains 5 of the 8 Virunga Mountains and a third of the world’s mountain gorilla population, plus hundreds of Golden monkeys.

Day 2: Morning Gorilla Trekking Adventure & Evening Tour of Beautiful Twin Lakes

Have an early breakfast at 6 am. Then, transfer to the park offices to meet your excellent local park rangers/guides for a gorilla trekking briefing. At 8 am, start your unforgettable trek deep into the jungle through volcano forests alongside an expert guide to search for the endangered Mountain Gorilla.

Trackers leave before the tourist groups to locate the gorilla groups so your guide should know where to take you. In the wet and muddy conditions, the gorilla trek can be relatively tiresome as you hike through the dense vegetation and climb to the base of the Virunga Volcanos where the gorilla families are found.

But know that if you spot these gentle human-like creatures (we share 98% of our DNA with them) it will all be worth it. You can get very close to the gentle mountain gorillas and watching their movements is like seeing a mirror image of yourself.  Your visit with the gorillas will last one unforgettable hour.

You then return to your lodge for a late delicious lunch and relaxation. In the evening, take a walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera where you have an encounter with the local fishermen and also enjoy the spectacular views of the lake. Retire for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 3: Do Golden Monkey Tracking & Transfer Back To Kigali

After an early breakfast at 6.30 am, you’ll go back to Volcanoes NP for yet another exciting adventure – golden monkey tracking – to view this primate species which is even more endangered than the mountain gorilla. Golden monkeys are endemic bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains.

They have beautiful golden fur coats and their spritely character makes them an exciting encounter. The trek to find them is relatively easy as they are at the bottom of the mountains. Golden monkey tracking will take about 1-3 hours to locate them and then you have one with the habituated group with more than 80 individuals.

Retreat from the activity and return to the starting point to meet your safari guide. You then embark on a 2-3 hour drive back to Kigali. Connect to the airport for your return flight home at the end of this remarkable 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Tour & Golden Monkey Trekking Safari.
