4 Day Gorilla Uganda Tour – DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1 of the 4 Days Gorilla Uganda Tour: Transfer to Bwindi which comes with en-route stops at Uganda Equator crossing

You shall have an early morning breakfast at 6:00 am from your hotel and be picked up as well as briefed by your company safari guide that has been assigned to lead you on this safari adventure setting off for the 8 -9 hours journey covering about 520km. During this exciting drive on the spectacular highway, you will have a stop at Mpambire cultural/traditional drum makers center and have an encounter with the local artists as they manufacture a wide variety of local musical instruments such as the drums, African chairs. The next stop will be at the Equator which is 77km from Kampala where you get to have an equator experiment to show you how to differentiate the Northern from the Southern hemispheres and also have a photo session.

From here you will proceed with the journey through the rural and semi-urban small Uganda towns enjoying sights of the roadside fresh food markets, banana plantations as well as sights of the long-horned Ankole cattle. You will settle for lunch in Mbarara for a nutritious traditional buffet at Igongo country hotel filled with local cuisines prepared from organic foodstuffs. After lunch, you will commence on your journey to Bwindi arriving in time for dinner and relaxation. Since the drive is long, short stopovers for bathroom and photo sessions of the beautiful landscape will be made along the way.

Day 2 of the 4 Days Gorilla Uganda Tour: Do Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park & do a community walk

You will wake up early today and have breakfast and get the lodge prepared packed lunch to carry along during gorilla trekking. Dressed in recommended gorilla trekking gear your guide will lead you to the respective park headquarters for briefing at 8 am after which you will also be allocated the respective gorilla family to track. With armed rangers, you will embark on your Uganda gorilla trek in Bwindi impenetrable forest, searching for your allocated gorilla family. Along the way, you will see some of the 350 bird species and other primates here such as the Black and white Colobus monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, different species of lizards, and the signature 3 horned chameleon.

The gorilla trek tends to take 2 – 8 hours depending on the Gorilla movements and one hour is allocated to you to interact with them after finding them. After the full hour in contact with these gorillas transfer back to the park center where you will be awarded a Gorilla trekking certificate for your tracking efforts. In the evening, you will engage in a local community experience visiting the Batwa pygmies. During this community interaction, they will take you through how they used to survive in this forest eating wild meat, leaves, and raw fruits. They will as well entertain you through songs and dances. It’s a uniquely enjoyable experience that allows you to have an up-close encounter with these people understanding of their daily lives.

Day 3 of the 4 Days Uganda Tour: Drive to Lake Mburo Park for an evening game drive.

On this 3^rd day of your safari, you will enjoy breakfast at your lodge, before commencing on a transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, driving through impressive south western Uganda landscapes covering 210km or 4-5 hours’ drive then make a stop at Igongo Cultural Center for a thrilling traditional lunch after which you will proceed and visit the 1520AD solar eclipse monument which is found in Biharwe village. If you wish you can hike up the hill on which this monument is set and enjoy spectacular views of the undulating Ankole plains which form a nice background for you to take photos.

While here, your guide will take you through the amazing history behind this solar eclipse and how it managed to greatly change the destiny of three great ancient kingdoms all at once. As you get closer to Lake Mburo Park you’re exposed to counts of long-horned Ankole cow with their beautiful physical spread, horn patterns, and body color. Upon arrival into this park, you will engage in a stunning game drive in which you will see several wild animals’ species such as the Burchell Zebras such as the Elands which are the biggest antelopes you can ever encounter on the African plains are eminent. Other animals you encounter include Rothschild Giraffes, Hippos Kob, Impalas, Cape buffaloes, and many others along with several bird species.

Day 4 of the 4 Days Gorilla Uganda Tour: Undertake a morning game walk safari experience and transfer back to Kampala

After having breakfast, you will embark on a spectacular morning game walk which is also coupled with a game drive experience aimed at taking you easily and faster to sections of the park that have a high concentration of wild game. During this game walk, you will visit the Kazuma hill and also various water ponds in this park which are home to a wide variety of wild mammals such as the Burchell zebras, Elands, Kobs, and Cape buffaloes.  While on this walk, you will have an opportunity to walk among these wild animals which will be only a few meters away from you, however, this shouldn’t scare you because you will be accompanied by an armed ranger who will ensure your security.

At the end of this activity, you will commence on your transfer to Kampala which covers 240km or taking about 3 – 4 hours’ drive, a journey that comes with interesting & exciting road stops done at the Uganda Equator where you will have an equator experiment showing how to differentiate the Northern from the Southern hemispheres, a photo moment then a traditional lunch buffet at the Equator cafeteria. This place is has a variety of African craft shops and can offer a great opportunity or enjoy a cup of African Coffee.

From here you will proceed with the rest of your journey back to Entebbe where your safari will come to an end with a drop off at the airport or your Hotel depending on your itinerary.

4 Day Gorilla Uganda Tour – GORILLA TREKKING TIPS:-

•   Mountain gorillas sometimes nest far from the start of your gorilla trek, you should ready yourself for a long walk and drink plenty of water.
•    Eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be communicated.
•    Smoking while inside the forest is strictly forbidden
•    Bwindi being a tropical forest, it can rain anytime so we encourage you to carry a rain poncho
•    Waterproof walking shoes or hiking boots are essential.
•    Gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants
•    Long trousers and long-sleeved sweaters or shirts while in the forest to avoid insect stings.
•    Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash
•    Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge
•    As you prepare to come for your Uganda gorilla adventure, please do some exercises so that you prepare your body for gorilla trekking which can last between 3-8 hours
•    In case you can’t walk for a very long time, you shouldn’t really worry about not being able to do gorilla trekking because there are potters who can carry you throughout at a small extra cost.
•    Carry your sunscreen lotion to keep your skin safe from the tropical heat & sun rays
•    When you get to the gorillas, don’t make noise because this agitates the gorillas
