Our exciting 4 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari will continue to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park named for the wonderful Murchison Falls where the world’s longest river (the Nile River) explodes violently through a 7m wide cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 45m below.

The park is also home to 76 mammal species including four of the Big Five gems and has the world’s largest population of the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. There is also an impressive bird list of 451 recorded species including the pre-historic shoebill stork. Here, you will have an opportunity to enjoy a game drive, a boat cruise along the River Nile to the bottom of the falls plus a hike to the top of the falls viewpoint.

Then, we move on to Kibale Forest National Park to track wild chimpanzees (our closest relatives) on foot. Kibale Forest is a natural habitat that contains one of the highest primate densities in Africa. There are over 1500 chimpanzees, and besides chimps, contains 12 other primate species, a total of 70 mammal species, and 325 bird species including the rare Green-breasted pitta.

Day 1: Transfer To Murchison Falls National Park. Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Enroute.

This morning, after breakfast at your hotel in Kampala at around 6: 00 am, we will embark on a 375km (7-8 hours) drive to Murchison Falls National Park. We will take a panoramic drive northwest through the former battle zone of the Luwero Triangle, passing through the impressive rural landscapes of Uganda with a lush green cover, scattered human settlements, towns, and markets where you will see people going on with their daily life.

You will also drive through the impressive flat stretches of the Nakasongola district before branching off at Nakitooma for a 7km drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the home of the only wild rhinos in Uganda.

Here you get the opportunity to undertake a 2 hours rhino tracking expedition on foot in the company of an expert ranger guide. Depending on the location of the Rhinos, you may need to drive closer to their location before you start the trek to reduce the distance. Your experienced ranger guide will share different information on the behavior of these magnificent prehistoric creatures and how you ought to behave as you track.

Once you locate the Rhinos, you can stay a maximum of one hour in their presence. You also have a chance of other animal sightings on this nature walk such as Waterbucks, Bushbucks, Uganda kobs, and some of the 300 bird species that call this sanctuary home, including the Grey-crowned crane, Kingfishers, and Abyssinian ground hornbill.

You retreat from the activity and connect to Murchison Falls through Masindi town and the lush tropical forest of Budongo arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Do a Game Drive In The Morning, Boat Cruise In The Afternoon, And Hike To The Top Of The Falls.

This morning, after breakfast at around 6.30 am, we will embark on a 3-4 hours game drive in the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park driving through the rolling grassy hills studded with Borassus palms and teeming with impressive African savannah animals such as Rothschild’s giraffes, African elephants, Cape buffalos, Lions, Leopards, Jackson’s hartebeest, Defassa waterbucks, Uganda kobs, Hippos, Oribi, Bushbucks, Bohor reedbucks, and Forest primates plus more as the checklist of mammals reach 76 species.

After the game drive, return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch then set off for an afternoon launch cruise along the historic Nile River (the longest river on the planet) to the base of Murchison Falls. This 3-hour boat trip is your ultimate experience; look out for animals coming to drink and those resident/semi-residents in water; hundreds of toothsome hippos, giant Nile crocodiles, and Monitor lizards. Watch out for herds of Buffalo, Elephants, and antelopes drinking water on the riverside- plus (thanks to a bird list of over 451 species) amazing birds such as Goliath herons, Squacco heron, Egyptian geese, Pelicans, Bee-eaters, Kingfishers, Hornbills, Cormorants, African fish eagles, Saddle-billed storks, and the iconic Shoebill storks.

Upon reaching the base of the falls, you embark on the hike to the captivating top of the falls hike for an awesome moment, marvel at the mighty Nile River funneled explosively through a 7m wide cleft in the rift escarpment to form a plume of foaming white water so loud you can barely hear yourself think. After taking shots of the photogenic Murchison Falls you will return for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer To Kibale National Park.

After a relaxed breakfast at around 7.30 am, we will embark on a 441km (8-9 hours) drive to Kibale National Park. We will drive along with the impressive sceneries of Albertine rift valley including the Lake Albert itself, the Butiaba escarpments, and the Blue Mountains of Congo before making a lunch stop in Hoima town. From Hoima, you drive to Fort Portal Area for relaxation, dinner, and overnight

Fort Portal, the seat of the ancient Kingdom of Toro is one of the most attractive towns in Uganda, situated amid lush rolling hillsides, swathed in neat tea plantations in the shadow of the legendary ‘Mountains of the Moon’ (The Rwenzoris- Africa’s tallest mountain range). Fort portal area has a strong association with the legendary Bachwezi Empire.

It is said that Ndahura the first Bachwezi King retired from his capital in Mubende after he abdicated in favor of his son Wamala, and many crater lakes in the vicinity of the town were his creation.

The highlight of the day: – A very scenic drive through impressive countryside landscapes with rural settlements and village towns en route.

Day 4: Track Chimpanzees In Kibale National Park And Transfer them To Kampala.

After an early breakfast at around 6.00 am, we will drive to Kibale Forest National Park−a popular destination for those looking for close encounters with our closest non-human relatives (Chimpanzees share 98.7% of our DNA). Kibale boasts three habituated chimpanzee groups, and the guides and trackers are experts at finding these fast-moving intelligent great apes as they move through the forest foraging and socializing.

Chimp tracking in Kibale starts with a briefing at 8.00 am. As you search for these intelligent tailless apes, you will also have an opportunity to encounter many of the other 12 primate species in the park including Uganda red colobus, L’Hoest’s Monkeys, Red-tailed monkey, Blue-tailed monkey, Black and white colobus monkeys, Olive baboons, Vervet monkeys, and grey-cheeked Mangabeys.

There are also 375 bird species including several specials such as African green-breasted pitta, African pitta, Abyssinian ground thrush, Afep pigeon, African grey parrot, Black bee-eater, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Blue-headed Sunbird, Brown illadopsis, Cassin’s spinetail, Crowned eagle, Dusky Crimsonwing, Little greenbul, Nahan’s francolin,  Purple-breasted sunbird, Red-faced woodland warbler, Ruwenzori Apalis, Scaly-breasted illadopsis, Western nicator, White-naped pigeon and Yellow-rumped tinkerbird.

You have a full hour with Chimpanzees after encountering the Chimps and you are free to take as many photos as you wish! Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to Kampala 326km about 6 – 7 hours’ drive arriving in the evening to mark the end of the tour.
