4 DAYS UGANDA GORILLA SAFARI 4 DAY GORILLA TREKKING UGANDA TOUR

4 Days Uganda Gorilla safari SAFARI OVERVIEW4 Days Uganda Gorilla Safari

Our 4 days Uganda gorilla safari is a 3 nights/4 days Gorilla trekking Uganda tour that starts and ends in Kampala. This 4 days Uganda gorilla trekking adventure takes us on a magical journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, the misty kingdom of the incredible Mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei) for two days of gorilla trekking encounters on foot.

Covering 321km2, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was gazetted a national park in 1991. As one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth, Bwindi was designated a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. This ancient montane rainforest habours almost half of the world’s Mountain gorillas, of which 19 gorilla families have undergone an extremely delicate process that has gradually brought them to tolerate the presence of humans for a brief period every day and allow a few lucky visitors to interact with them in the wild. Alongside over 459 gorillas that live here, Bwindi protects 120 mammal species, 10 primate specie, 351 bird species, 200 butterfly species, reptiles, amphibians and plants, many of them endemic to this part of Africa.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi takes place in the four gorilla trekking sectors including:-

  • Buhoma with habituated gorilla families such as Mubare, Rushegura, Habinyanja, Katwe;
  • Ruhija with gorilla families including Bitukura, Oruzogo, Kyaguliro, and Mukiza;
  • Rushaga with habituated families such as Nshongi, Mishaya, Mucunguzi, Bweza, Kahungye, Bushingye, Rwigi and Bikyingi;
  • Nkuringo with gorilla habituated including Nkuringo, Bushaho and Christmas.

This double gorilla trekking adventure is spiced by the cultural tours with the Batwa and Bakiga people along with the recreational boat cruise and magical sightseeing on Lake Bunyonyi and the Kigezi Highlands respectively.

At around 6.00am, after a hearty breakfast and a short drive to the park headquarter, you will be met by your excellent local gorilla trekking ranger guides. They will give you a brief informative talk about the great apes you about to see and on the gorilla trekking rules. Top of the list: avoid getting too close to gorillas. Not only for your own safety, but also for theirs as our colds, viruses and diseases can easily spread to them due to shared DNA. From here, you head to the forest in the company of the armed ranger guides that will lead you up the gorillas.

Gorilla trekking adventure can take between 2 and 8 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. The trek is beyond the ordinary as it involves traversing the dense jungles and mist-swathed valleys, echoing with the haunting calls of exotic birds and monkeys. You will hike through challenging landscapes some of which are steep, rough, muddy and slippery at times under the canopy of the mature forest which forms darkness even during the day. When you have made the effort to negotiate enough of the terrain to find yourself in the presence of a 500-pound adult male mountain gorilla and his family, all fatigue is forgotten, and the elation and wonderment take over.

Your mountain gorilla family is likely to be chilled out as they go about daily life – eating wild celery, indulging in some blissful grooming, or simply enjoying social activities with their family members. After a blissful hour with these gentle giants, you will return to the starting point and connect to the lodge for relaxation. In the evening, chilling at the lodge grounds you will be treated to a traditional thrill performance of the local Batwa/Bakiga that lives around the park.
