4 Days Luxury Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari Bwindi (Double Gorilla Trekking)– DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY.

Day 1 of the 4 Days Luxury Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari Bwindi: Fly to Bwindi and engage in an afternoon optional activity

On the first day of this safari, you will wake up very early in the morning at 6:00 am to ready yourself for pick up at 6:30 am by one of our safari guides who will transfer to the airport to catch up with your flight to Bwindi which departs from Entebbe International airport at 7:45 am. During this 1 hour and 45 minutes flight, you will be able to have a bird’s eye view of Uganda’s ever-changing landscape as you get further away from the airport. As soon as you take off, you will be able to see the serene waters Lake Victoria as well as the surrounding hills near this lake. As you get nearer to Kihihi airstrip, you will realize a change in topography as the hills here become more pronounced and these are majorly covered with thick tropical forests and this will definitely make it known to you that you are now over the Bwindi forest.

Upon landing at Kihihi airstrip, you will be welcomed by your guide who will be waiting to pick and brief you. He will transfer you to your already booked luxury safari lodge in Bwindi located in the dense tropical jungle of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park forest for check-in. Upon your arrival to the lodge, you will be welcomed warmly by the lodge staff with their heartwarming smiles, a true signature of Ugandan hospitality. The lodge staff personnel will lead you to the elegant room with exquisite decor using several African art pieces that will make you have an African living experience. After you have fully settled in, later you will be fetched later on so that you get to dine on a sumptuous Ugandan buffet that has been carefully crafted using an assortment of freshly handpicked organic Ugandan ingredients by a team of expert chefs.

In the afternoon, you can choose to engage in any of the numerous possible optional activities here such as a nature stroll as you venture into the forest to encounter some of its other inhabitants except the gorillas.  If you have an undying passion for birds, then just grab your pair of binoculars and venture into Bwindi jungle for a birding expedition as this jungle is home to over 350 bird species with 23 Albertine rift endemics. You can also decide to engage in a community walk and this gives you an opportunity to encounter the Batwa people. At the end of this activity, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2 of the 4 Days Luxury Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari Bwindi: Do gorilla trekking and have an evening village walk to the Batwa / Bakiga

This is a great day that when you get to meet the mountain gorillas face to face. You will gather at the respective park headquarters for briefing in the morning at 8 am where you are also allocated the respective gorilla families to track. With your armed rangers in the lead and at the back, you will embark on your first Uganda gorilla trek in Bwindi, searching for your allocated gorilla family. Along the way keep your eyes and ears on the lookout for several of the 350 bird species that are found in this park that might come your way, you will also be in a position to see some of the other primates here such as the Black and white colobus monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, different species of lizards such as the 3 horned chameleon and many more. This trek tends to take 2 – 8 hours depending on the gorilla movements part of which will be the one hour that will be availed to you to interact with the gorillas.

Upon approaching gorillas, their reaction is not so very predictable as it can include them giving you a courteous welcome, minding less about you. As a result of habituation, Mountain gorillas are always welcoming with the Silverback beating a little of his chest to demonstrate his might and also welcoming to you to the group. Look out for the young gorillas are very playful and are at times not aware of the 7m rule thus can try to draw closer to even touching on your body – save it by taking some steps away to observe the distance. You are not limited in any way to ask as many questions about gorillas and their habitats along with taking pictures so long as you have the opportunity to do so. After your one hour with the gorillas, return to the starting point and connect to the lodge for relaxation.

In the evening you will engage in a Batwa or Bakiga village walk and this allows you to have an up-close encounter with one of the indigenous tribes in Uganda who are the famous Bwindi National park Pygmy people. They will take through how they lived and survived on raw vegetables, roots and wild meat while they lived in caves as well as big trees in the forest. After this historical encounter, you will return to the lodge for relaxation.

The highlight of the day: Trekking and seeing the mighty Mountain Gorillas at close range.

Day 3 of the 4 Days Luxury Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari Bwindi: Do second gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for an evening boat ride

After having breakfast, you will embark on your second gorilla trekking experience and you have the option of trekking a different gorilla family and have a comparative advantage of two (2), different gorilla families (most advised), in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, OR you can trek the same group of the previous day. The second gorilla trek offers the opportunity to explore the mountain gorillas in detail including their behaviour, the foraging patterns among others. After the full hour contact with these mountain gorillas for the second time, you will transfer back to the park centre where you get awarded a Gorilla tracking certificate for your tracking efforts.

From here, you shall drive to Lake Bunyonyi to relax from the rather a bit tedious Uganda gorilla trekking experiences. Upon arrival at this beautiful tropical gem of Kigezi, you will be fascinated by the breathtaking priceless views of this lake and the numerous islands dotted all over it. An adventurous canoe boat ride on the lake as you are taken through the history behind several of these islands such as the Akampene island referred to as the punishment Island coupled with amazing community village walks await you this day.

From this canoe ride, you will transfer to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay

The highlight of the day: Tracking the Gorillas for the second time and visiting Lake Bunyonyi area and local communities.

Day 4 of the 4 Days Luxury Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari Bwindi: Transfer back to Kampala

You will wake up at 7:00 am to the sweet melodies of birds that will be singing their hearts off to the dawn of a new day and this will fairly make you understand why this Lake in called Bunyonyi which means a “Lake of many small birds”, as you will hear interjecting voices of many birds singing together in uniformity as they welcome the day. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea and choose from any of the available wide selection of confectionaries. After having breakfast, you will embark on the transfer to Kampala 420km and Entebbe 470km from Lake Bunyonyi.

During this 470km return journey to Entebbe, you will drive through the rolling hills of Mirama which will fascinate you given how the locals here have managed to tame these wildlands by cultivating along these steep slopes. Along the way back you will encounter many local men carrying farm produce on their bicycles headed towards the nearest local markets, women and children going on with their daily routines, fill free to stop at your wish for a chat or request to take a picture with them.

You will make an en-route stop for lunch at Igongo country hotel just a few kilometres outside Mbarara town to enjoy a locally inspired lunch buffet comprised of healthy nutritious food after which your journey back to Entebbe airport shall resume, where your safari will come to an end as you catch your departure flight back home.

4 Days Luxury Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari Bwindi (Double Gorilla Trekking) –  GORILLA TREKKING TIPS:-

•   Mountain gorillas sometimes nest far from the start of your gorilla trek, you should ready yourself for a long walk and drink plenty of water.
•    Eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be communicated.
•    Smoking while inside the forest is strictly forbidden
•    Bwindi being a tropical forest, it can rain anytime so we encourage you to carry a rain poncho
•    Waterproof walking shoes or hiking boots are essential.
•    Gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants
•    Long trousers and long-sleeved sweaters or shirts while in the forest to avoid insect stings.
•    Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash
•    Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge
•    As you prepare to come for your Uganda gorilla adventure, please do some exercises so that you prepare your body for gorilla trekking which can last between 3-8 hours
•    In case you can’t walk for a very long time, you shouldn’t really worry about not being able to do gorilla trekking because there are potters who can carry you throughout at a small extra cost.
•    Carry your sunscreen lotion to keep your skin safe from the tropical heat & sun rays
•    When you get to the gorillas, don’t make noise because this agitates the gorillas
