Starting and ending in Kampala, this exciting 4 days trip includes morning, afternoon, and evening game drives in a custom-made 4×4 safari vehicle, as well as an optional rhino tracking encounter on foot in Ziwa Sanctuary, offering a great opportunity to see all the iconic Big Five of Africa (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and Rhino).

It is not only recreational but also offers a great chance to watch enormous Nile crocodiles gliding along the surface, with pods of submerged hippos breaking the surface of the still water as they peep up to catch a glimpse of you, elephants and buffalos quenching their thirst at the river banks along with a variety of waterbirds – Kingfishers, Goliath herons, Saddle bellied stork, African jacana, Squacco heron, African fish eagles, and the incredible, prehistoric like Shoebills.

On arrival at the bottom of the falls, you embark on the hike to the top of Murchison Falls. These falls are arguably the world’s most powerful! 4 Days Murchison Falls Safari in Uganda Tour DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1 of the 4 Days Murchison Falls Safari in Uganda: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park & Enjoy an Evening Game Drive. Optional Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track the White Rhinos.

After your breakfast at your hotel or place of residence at around 7.30 am, we pack your bags into our comfortable, air-conditioned 4×4 safari vehicle and then embark on a 311km drive northwest towards Murchison Falls Park. The drive is long (5 to 6-hours) but it is rewarding, taking you through ever-changing landscapes, busy roadside markets, and quiet rural villages. You drive through impressive flat landscapes of central Uganda including the district of Nakasongora before branching off at Nakitooma for 7km to connect to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (optional). On arrival in Ziwa, you undertake a thrilling 2 hours rhino tracking adventure on foot to encounter the count of 33 Southern white rhinos in their natural habitat.

After rhino tracking, you have your lunch at the nearby Kabalega Diner after which you continue to the legendary Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s biggest and one of its best safari parks. The park used to be one of the most famous African safari parks, but the poaching of the 1970s and 80s led to the decimation of the park’s fauna population. However, recently the Murchison is starting to reclaim its former glory, and now this 3,840km2 park boasts 76 mammal species including 4 of the Big 5 and the world’s largest population of Rothschild’s giraffes, as well as over 450 bird species.

The park is named after wonderful Murchison Falls, which in turn were christened by explorer and naturalist Sir Samuel Baker. Baker named the falls Murchison Falls after the geologist Roderick Murchison, the president of the Royal Geographical Society in the 1860s. Notable visitors to the park include Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway, and several British royals. The 1951 film The African Queen starring Humphrey Bogart was filmed on Lake Albert and the Nile River in Murchison Falls NP.

You arrive at your luxurious lodge, check-in, freshen up, and relax. In the evening, you embark on a 2-3 hours game drive after which drive back to the lodge and settle for a sumptuous three-course dinner and a good night’s rest under the stars in Africa.
