Detailed itinerary of the 5 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Safari, Combined Congo Rwanda Gorilla trekking Safari Tour

Day 1 of the 5 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Safari: Arrive in Kigali – Rwanda and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You arrive at Rwanda’s main gateway – the Kigali International Airport where you will be welcomed by your driver guide before embarking on the drive to Volcanoes National Park 116km about 3 hours drive enjoying the beautiful Rwandan countryside marked by a series of hills which have earned Rwanda a dub as the land of a thousand hills. Arrive in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2 of the 5 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Safari:  Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and relax at the lodge. Optional Musaze caves walk

Volcanoes National Park is the only habitat in the destination Rwanda where the critically endangered Mountain gorillas can be explored. Gorilla trekking commences at 8am at the park headquarters Kinigi with briefing though an earlier arrival offers the opportunity to view the traditional performances of the native Banyarwanda while enjoying the taste of Rwandan coffee. After the allocation of gorilla groups and briefing, the RDB rangers lead you to the gorilla highlands traversing the steep landscapes while enjoying the beauty of the scenery and the sound of the forest. The moment with the mountain gorillas is limited to one hour listening to the themed interpretation of the ranger guides and taking photos after which you return to the starting point and connect to the lodge for afternoon relaxation. An optional tour to the Musaze caves can be arranged in the afternoon to explore these ancient caves dating 65million years ago formed as a result of lava flow from the volcanoes of Sabyinyo and Bisoke. The caves are 2km wide inside and feature a range of 31 caves with a huge bat colony inside. Retire for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 of the 5 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Safari:   Transfer to Goma – Virunga National Park via Gisenyi – Lake Kivu

After breakfast, embark on the drive to Congo’s Virunga National Park connecting to the town of Goma via Gisenyi. You enjoy the views of Lake Kivu and the towering Nyiragongo Volcano. You can chill on Gisenyi beaches and an optional boat cruise on Lake Kivu to explore the expanse water mass and the range of Islands can be arranged. Proceed to Goma for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4 of the 5 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Safari:  Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park and relax at the lodge

Gather at the designated point depending on the location of the Mountain gorillas and embark on the trek traversing the jungle of Congo in search of the critically endangered mountain gorillas. Virunga National Park is part of the greater Virunga massif which incorporates Rwanda’s Volcanoes and Uganda’s Mgahinga sheltering a population of 480 mountain gorillas. The moment with the gorillas is limited to one (1) hour after which you retreat from the activity back to the lodge for an afternoon relaxation.

Day 5 of the 5 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Safari:  Transfer back to Kigali & depart
