5 Days Kenya Tour – DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1: Visit Lake Nakuru National Park, Game Drive & Birding

On day one of your 5 days Kenya tour, you’ll be picked up at your hotel in Nairobi at around 8.00 am. Your tour driver guide will load your luggage into our comfortable 4×4 vehicle and take you on a slow drive out of Nairobi, heading northwest.

As you leave, enjoy the sights and sounds of Nairobi, a very interesting East African city that is sometimes referred to as the “green city in the sun”.

As soon as you exit Nairobi, the scenery will change and you’ll start seeing why people that come for Kenya safaris always return; it really is a beautiful place. You’ll enjoy the magnificent views as drive through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru.

Nakuru, meaning “dusty place” in the Maasai language is one of the rift valley’s soda lakes and is part of the 188 square kilometer Lake Nakuru National Park. The lake is surrounded by high ridges and the views promise to wow.

You’ll reach your lodge in time for lunch. After lunch, have some time to relax before setting out on an afternoon game drive, searching for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, Black rhinos, White rhinos, Cape Buffalos, Leopards, Zebras, Impalas, Lions, Olive baboons, Hyenas, Gazelles, Waterbucks, Hippos, and more.

You’ll drive along Lake Nakuru shores to see a wonderful variety of birds, including spectacular pink greater and lesser flamingoes, Pelicans, Cormorants, Egrets, Herons, Ibises, Ducks, Spoonbills, Fish Eagles, Kingfishers, and more.  After a game drive, you will return to your lodge to relax, have dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Travel To Maasai Mara National Reserve. Enjoy A Late Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast on day two of your 5 days tour in Kenya, you will drive approximately 4 hours into the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will arrive in the afternoon in time for lunch at your lodge/camp. After lunch, you’ll enjoy the first of game drives in this world-renowned game reserve.

Masai Mara needs little in the way of introduction. A stunning landscape, populated by incredibly prolific wildlife, the Mara is a powerful magnet for anyone with a taste for safari holidays in Africa.

Grassy plains, towering escarpments, incredible skies, and wonderful sunsets combine to create the perfect backdrop for the spectacular action that takes place every day across the national reserve.

Every year from around July and October, the Great Migration, one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth takes place here. This is when almost two million Wildebeests, Gazelles, and Zebras gather their young and trek across the crocodile-infested Mara River in the Maasai Mara.

Their migratory nature takes them in search of fresh grass to graze and rainfall.

The Great Wildebeest Migration is a unique event; no other migration features such a high number of wildlife, except perhaps butterflies and smaller birds.

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drives in Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Optional Hot Air Balloon Ride

A full-day game drive in the Masai Mara to increase your chances of encountering many of the wildlife species found in the reserve.

Your safari adventure will begin before sunrise, as wildlife is most active in the early and late hours of the day. Lucky visitors might even witness predators hunting during these hours – a lion hunting and killing a wildebeest, or a cheetah chasing down a gazelle, for example.

You will have a chance to spot all of Africa’s Big Five animals and other wildlife, as well as more than 450 species of birds.

You will have a picnic lunch and plenty of drinking water available so you can properly enjoy a full day of adventure. There is also an optional Hot Air Balloon Safari in time for sunrise (including champagne and bush breakfast).

Day 4: Half-Day Game Drive in Maasai Mara. Evening Maasai Cultural Tour

You will have another exhilarating morning game drive in the Masai Mara National Reserve today. After a game drive, you will return to your lodge for lunch and some time to rest. In the afternoon, you will visit an authentic Maasai Village where you will learn about the fascinating culture of the famous Maasai People.

Your cultural experience will begin with a traditional dance performed by men and women. Your guide will then lead you through the village as you discover their traditions and beliefs, and daily practices like demonstrations of how to make fire using sticks and animal dung.

You will also get the chance to go into Maasai villagers’ homes and witness the family living arrangement.

Your tour will also include personal interactions with “the Morans,” young Maasai men trained as soldiers to protect the Maasai communities. The Morans once had to kill a lion as a rite of passage into manhood.

At the end of the guided tour, there will be a chance to buy some gift items and curios made by the villagers – a chance to give back to the local community.

Afterward, you’ll return to the lodge for check out and proceed to Nairobi. You may stop for lunch or maybe some last-minute shopping, depending on your flight time.
