Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,860m) To Mandara Hut (2,700m)
On the first day of your 5 days Kilimanjaro climbing trek safari Tanzania tour, begin your adventure to conquer Africa’s tallest mountain. Your guide and a mountain support crew will arrive at your hotel in Arusha in the morning to meet you.
After a quick briefing, you’ll be driven to the eastern entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park: Marangu Gate (1,860 m). Here, the head guide will acquire the necessary permits and finalize search and rescue registration. You then begin trekking up to Mandara Hut (2,700 m).
You will hike through a rainforest and possibly spot some of the exotic birdlife, plants, and animals in the area. Your guides will set a moderate pace, to allow for time to acclimatize to the altitude changes. Guides will continually repeat the words, “pole pole”, which means “go slowly” in Swahili.
Throughout the entire Marangu route, you will be spending your nights in special huts. They offer a great alternative to those who do not want to sleep in tents.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
On the second day of your 5 days Kilimanjaro climbing trek safari Tanzania tour, enjoy an early breakfast at Mandara Hut.
Thereafter, start a moderate trek through the upper rainforest zone and reach the moorland zone. In this zone, plants grow to outrageous heights like the giant lobelia and giant groundsel that can reach up to 5m (16ft). Enjoy the view of the semi-alpine zone’s plants and ravines.
When you reach the Horombo hut (3720) on this day, you will be treated to views of two volcanos at once: Kibo and Mawenzi. You will then have lunch.
After lunch, have some time to relax before embarking on an acclimatization hike in the direction of Kibo Hut with a 200-meter gain in altitude. Then hike back down to Horombo Hut where dinner will be prepared for you.

One of the most proven ways to acclimatize to increasing altitude is to ‘climb high, and sleep low, which entails trekking to a point above your camp and then returning to camp to rest. Acclimatization help to increase your chances of successfully climbing Kilimanjaro and save you from the consequences of altitude sickness.

Because of the increase in altitude, hike at a slow pace today to allow time to get acclimatized but pay attention to any signs of altitude sickness. The ascent to the saddle of Mt Kilimanjaro is between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi, get a great view of Kibo after crossing the saddle.
When you reach the Kibo Hut (4,700m) you will be served lunch, after which we recommend you sleep as much as you can, avoid any strenuous activity, and drink lots of water. Prepare for the upcoming hike to the summit.

Day 4: Summit Uhuru Peak & Descent to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

The view of the sunrise from the summit is also worth the early start. From Gilman’s Point, continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Take a quick moment to enjoy the view and celebrate a successful climb before starting the descent to Horombo Hut (3,720m).
Enjoy a well-deserved rest during the last night on the mountain.
Please note: The trekking will be moderate from a physical standpoint, but the altitude presents a much more serious problem. For the entire length of the trekking, each pair of climbers will be accompanied by their own guide, who will be monitoring your stamina and mental resolve.

Enjoy the easier descent and hikers who successfully reached Uhuru Peak will receive a summit certificate. Last you’re driven to your hotel in Arusha for a soft bed, electrical lighting, and – often best of all – a hot shower!
