Day 1: Arrive At Kigali International Airport & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After arriving at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your tour driver who will give you a briefing about this 6 days safari in Rwanda.
After loading your luggage into the vehicle, you’ll begin your 2-3-hour drive through Rwanda’s beautiful, terraced hillsides into the breathtaking Virunga Mountains where Volcanoes National Park is located. This stunning park of 160km2 protects around 300 of the earth’s 1063 Mountain Gorillas remaining in the wild.
It’s also the location where Dian Fossey dedicated 18 years of her life, studying and protecting these endangered apes from 1966 up to her murder in 1985. Day 2: Do Gorilla Trekking & Tour The Twin Lakes
Wake up at sunrise and enjoy a good breakfast. Then transfer to the park offices where briefing, tea, and coffee will be given before starting the trek into the forest. At 8 am, embark on an unforgettable trek deep into the jungle through volcano forests alongside an expert guide to search for rare Mountain Gorillas.
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda can take from 1 to 7 hours and is relatively tiresome, so be prepared for a challenge. But know that if you spot these gentle giant, human-like creatures (we share 98% of our DNA with them) it will all be worth it. Rwanda authorities are fiercely protective of this natural treasure, and you’re allowed 1 hour with gorillas.
Return to the lodge for a delicious late lunch and some relaxation. In the evening, take a scenic walk to the volcanic twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. Walk through farmlands and villages and interact with people along the way. Enjoy stunning views around the lakes and return to the lodge for dinner, and overnight.

Day 3: Track Rare Golden Monkeys & Explore Musanze Caves
On day three of your 6 days safari in Rwanda enjoy an early breakfast. After breakfast, transfer to the park offices to meet your guide for a briefing. After the briefing at 8 am, set off in the morning to track one of the troops of golden monkeys – the “little primates” of the Virungas.
These rare and endangered creatures live in troops of up 100 individuals on the lower slopes of the forest, making them easier to trek (1-3 hours). They are wonderfully lively and entertaining to watch, leaping through the bamboo above your head! You spend up to an hour observing their charming antics.
Return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, explore the historic Musanze Cave that was formed 65 million years ago by the lava flow from Sabyinyo and Bisoke volcanoes. The caves feature 31 entrances and stretch to 2 km inside. Retire for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Akagera NP. Make a Lunch Stop in Kigali City
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast on day six of your 6 days safari to Rwanda. Then stretch your legs among the brightly colored shops of Musanze before your next drive. Later this morning, set off on a 4-5 hour drive east to Akagera National Park.
Pass impressive countryside landscapes before making a stop in Kigali for a good lunch. After lunch, complete your scenic drive to Akagera NP, arriving at your lodge in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.
If you’re interested and have the time, you can enjoy a sunset boat cruise on Lake Ihema or a night game drive in the savannah. Akagera is Rwanda’s largest national park (1,122km²), boasting a profusion of wildlife including all the famous Africa’s “big five” animals. The park is very scenic, with a string of lakes.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise in Akagera
Day five of your 6 days safari in Rwanda starts with breakfast before sunrise. At 6.30 am, go for a four-hour Rwanda wildlife safari game drive in the Akagera savannah.
This is the best time of day to see predators, and the sunrise over the plains is an unforgettable sight. Look out for Lions, Rhinos, Leopards, Elephants, Buffalo, Hyenas, and others who graze freely in the park. Giraffes are a popular site as well as Zebras, Warthogs, Waterbucks, Roan Antelopes, Elands, Topis, and Impalas.

After breakfast, head back to Kigali. On arrival, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial – an incredible site, constructed on the burial site of 250,000 victims of the 1994 Rwanda genocide against the Tutsi tribe.
