Chimp tracking in Kalinzu now comes with about a 90% success rate, making the site almost as reliable as Kibale National Park and the quality of sighting is usually very good.

During our encounter, we’ll traverse the jungle with sights of magical lush mature tropical forest and several other primates including Black and white colobus, Red-tailed monkeys, Blue monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Olive baboon and many of the 378 bird species here. The eventual encounter with the chimps as they munch fruits, make pant hooting calls, socialize, patrol, copulate and roll themselves in tree branches derive an exciting memory that will stay etched on your mind forever.

Retreat from the activity, have your packed picnic lunch and transfer to Mweya Peninsular for an afternoon 2 hours boat cruise along 40km long Kazinga Channel which connects lakes, Edward and George. You cross at Katuna border post and proceed with sightseeing of the Rwandan hillsides before arriving in Kigali for relaxation and overnight.

Founded in 1907 while Rwanda was under German colonial rule, Kigali has been the capital of Rwanda since 1962 when the country gained its independence. This pleasant city with few large buildings is spreads over several of hills and has a reputation for being clean, safe and friendly.

Kigali is spotlessly clean African city, partly because plastic bags are banned and because of the universal national practice of Umuganda when everyone gets together on the last Saturday morning of each month working on community projects like keeping streets clean, tending to gardens and helping neighbours. Do bear this in mind should you be on holiday in Rwanda during this time – many shops and businesses will be closed for the morning.

We’ll visit Nyanza palace; the Royal home to the two Kings of Rwanda namely King Musinga and his successor King Rudahigwa. This is impressively built Kinyarwanda hut whose architecture dates back to the times of these Kings.

It homes exhibits detailing the monarchy and its expansion through from the 15th century and information on the kingdom and colonial era under Germany and Belgium. You will learn about Rwandese society through history, the king’s lifestyle, as well as the country’s history before the genocide.

You’ll also learn about the evolution of farming and building through the centuries, and then venture into the grounds to meet the long-horned cows, known as Inyambo. From Nyanza, you proceed to Butare to visit the Ethnographic Museum which is the largest Museum in Rwanda with over 100,000 artefacts that bring out the history and traditions of Rwanda in detail.
