Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve; Afternoon Game Drive

Your amazing 7 days Kenya safari begins today!

At 7.30 am, your tour driver guide will meet you at your pre-tour hotel in Nairobi. Following a short tour briefing, embark on a five-hour scenic African drive north.

Leaving the bustling city of Nairobi, you enter the countryside with its rolling hills, mountains, and open plains. You pass villagers herding their animals in a scene unchanged in centuries until the landscape becomes wilder and more rugged, and the plains of the reserve open out before you.

In the far distance, the belt of green is the ribbon of the Ewaso Nyiro River, which is surrounded by beautiful riverine forests and doum palms and is the source of life-sustaining water for all the wildlife of this semi-arid area.

Samburu is renowned for its lion population, and this is one of the locations where Joy and George Adamson raised Elsa the lioness, of Born Free fame. It is also one of the best places to see leopards and huge tusked elephants in Kenya.

You’ll reach your lodge or camp just in time for lunch. At 4 pm, after some relaxation, you’ll go on a game drive to discover the incredible wildlife of Samburu National Reserve, including the rare and iconic “Samburu Special Five” – Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, long-necked Gerenuk, and Somali Ostrich.
