7 Days Uganda Tour – DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1 of the 7 Days Uganda Tour: Transfer to Lake Mburo for an afternoon game drive

The first day of this epic safari tour will commence early in the morning at 6:00am as you have breakfast at the hotel then embark on an incredible 240km road trip to Lake Mburo National Park which takes about 4 hours to get there from Kampala. While on this scenic road drive, you will enjoy beautiful landscapes as well as exciting road stops for photos. First you will visit Mpambire drum center where you will have an encounter with local artists as they manufacture a wide variety of local musical instruments such as the drums, African chairs. From here proceed to the Equator point where another stop will be done to allow enjoy an experience of living in 2 separate halves of the world at the same time as this is the line that divides the earth into 2 equal halves! You should take a number of photos of yourself while here to allow have this magical moment captioned for eternity. You will also undertake a water experience which teaches how to differentiate the northern from the Southern hemisphere hence helping you to always be in the know of which half of the world you’re in anywhere in the world!  From here, continue with your remarkable journey to Lake Mburo where you will be greeted by the undulating topography of this untamed wilderness that is fully beaming with a wide diversity of wild animals. Day 2 of the 7 Days Uganda Tour: Do a morning game walk/drive as you transfer to Queen for Chimpanzee tracking

After breakfast after you will enjoy a walking safari experience at 7:00 am lasting about 2 hours as you explore the undulating plains of Lake Mburo. This walking safari promises you incredible point-blank encounters with the wild dwellers of these plains which include Burchell’s Zebra, the Impala, Topis, the Deffasa Waterbuck, Bushbuck, warthog, the Rothschild giraffes and elands among other species can be explored on this morning encounter. At the end of this activity, your next adventure will be a safari transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an epic chimpanzee trek in Kalinzu forest. Queen Elizabeth Park lies about 200km or 3-4 hours drive from Lake Mburo. During this drive to Queen Elizabeth, you will enjoy magnificent sightings of the long-horned Ankole cattle which you’re likely to find along the way as they walk to the grazing fields. You will also have beautiful views of the Bushenyi tea estates which from afar look like expansive football fields with their lush green colouration visible as far as your eye site can allow you to see. As you get closer to the park you will meet the Kyambura escarpment and this is the get way into the western arm of the rift valley which houses this park. You can take a minute off to admire the sprawling savanna plains on the rift valley that welcome you to Queen Elizabeth Park. From here you will have a short lunch break in one of the restaurants here after which you will drive to Kalinzu forest to engage where you will engage in a Chimpanzee trekking spectacle. When you encounter these Chimpanzees, you will be amazed by their human-like characters in terms of both behaviour and physical structure that have earned them a name as the humans of the wild. You will fall in love with how these wild beings interact with each other including parting each other on the backs, giving each other hugs and sometimes even kisses. At the end of your one full contact hour with the chimpanzees, you will return to back to the starting point where the guide will drive you to your lodge here for relaxation dinner and an overnight stay.

Experiencing walking among the wild animals of Mburo will be the highlight of the day.

Day 3 of the 7 Days Uganda Tour:  Engage in morning drive in the crater fields of Katwe & transfer to Ishasha sector.

Today is another day for you to continue with your exploration of Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will wake up at 7:00 am to the sweet melodies of numerous birds as they twitter to the new daybreak that is unfolding on this savanna plains. Find your way to the dining area where you will be in for a mouthwatering breakfast buffet consisting of African tea or coffee served with a wide variety of freshly baked confectionaries as well as tropical fruits. Check out of the lodge and embark on an exploration journey driving through the crater fields of Katwe where you will be in for an encounter with numerous crater lakes that were created here millions of years through the volcanicity process that shaped these lands to how you see them today. From here, you will embark on a 3-4 hours’ drive to the Southern end of Queen Elizabeth park of Ishasha where you will have lunch then engage in an evening game drive upon your arrival. A game drive in this sector of the park puts you in prime position to encounter the famous tree-climbing lions that you will see lodged in tree branches in an attempt to escape the bugs on the ground which make it disrupt their peace of mind if they stay on the ground. At the end of this game drive, you will transfer to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4 of the 7 Days Uganda Tour: Engage in another morning game drive in Ishasha and transfer to Bwindi

Day 4 is dedicated to having you transfer from savanna plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park to the tropical jungles of Bwindi. The day will start with a morning game drive at 8:00 am through the Ishasha sector and this is aimed at maximizing your chances of encountering the tree climbing lions as well as the other animals that are found here like the African bush elephants in case you missed them during the evening game drive. From here you will embark on the transfer to Bwindi and the ends with your arrival to the lodge in Bwindi.

Day 5 of the 7 Days Uganda Tour: Do Mountain Gorilla trekking & transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for an evening boat cruise

On this day, you will have an early morning breakfast served at 6:30 am comprising of a wide assortment of bites ranging from truly delicious tropical organic fruits to freshly baked confectionaries aimed at giving you an energy boost for the gorilla trekking in Bwindi experience ahead of you where you get to meet one of the gorilla families in this park for a full hour. Depart from the lodge with your packed lunch and gather at the park centre where you will be welcomed by the park sector warden who will take you through the history of gorilla conservation in this particular park sector and Bwindi park in general. While here still you get to have a miniature cultural performance from the local Batwa people who will showcase their musical skills to you. With your armed ranger in the lead, embark on a trek, searching for your allocated gorilla family. Along the way keep your eyes and ears on the lookout for several of the 350 bird species that are found in this park that might come your way, you will also be in a position to see some of the other primates here such as the Black and white colobus monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, different species of lizards such as the 3 horned chameleon and many more. On seeing the gorillas, count yourself among the lucky people who have managed to see these endangered mountain giants in their natural habitat. You will be granted a full hour with these magical beings to watch them as they go about their daily lives and if you’re lucky you might get to see the young gorillas break the 7-meter rule as they get closure to you to have you incorporated in their games. After the full hour contact with these gorillas, you will transfer back to the park centre where you get awarded a Gorilla tracking certificate for your tracking efforts. After trekking the gorillas, you can choose to spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the lodge or you can choose to visit the local Batwa Pygmies community and have a first-hand experience of how this small community of people have managed to live side by side with these giant beasts for over 1000 years. while here you will see how these guys used to hunt and use some of the trees and leaves from these forests to treat several for their ailments.

 Having a magical moment with the majestic gorillas surely makes this day a one to remember for a very long time in your lifetime.

Day 6 of the 7 Days Uganda Tour: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for a relaxed boat ride and an evening nature hike

This day is fairly relaxed as you get to wake up a little bit late at 8:00 am for breakfast. You will then check out of the lodge and drive to Lake Bunyonyi driving through the fascinating Kigezi Highlands with magical sceneries. Along the way, you will have an en route stop at a local market which gives you an opportunity to have an African shopping experience as you haggle for the best price bargain while shopping a selected few items courtesy of the company. This also allows you to interact with the locals and have an insight of how they live their daily lives. Upon your arrival at Lake Bunyonyi and embark on the whole day Island hopping exploration visiting the main Islands of Lake Bunyonyi. You explore the Bucuranuka (Upside down) Island which is believed to have buried people alive after refusing to offer local brew to an old woman and she cursed the Island turn upside down burying its inhabitants. You also visit the Akampane (Punishment) Island where the girls with unwanted premarital pregnancies would be dumbed to die of hunger or as they as try to swim back the mainland. Njuyera Islands which is a traditional leprosy healing centre which can also be visited. Have a lunch break then in the evening, embark on a hike to the top of the world point here which takes you 2200meters above sea level and if you manage to get to the top your efforts will be rewarded with spectacular views of the entire Bunyonyi lake which will forever be imprinted in your memory. While at the top take time off to catch your breath and enjoy a picnic evening tea that comes with a warm cup of coffee & an assortment of snacks while you appreciate nature’s work and also re-energize before you slope down. After this hike, set off for a community tour as you visit some of the local schools if the school term is open. While here, you will get to meet the local students who are striving for a better future, if it’s fine with you, you can donate a few scholastic items to the school to enable these students to have a comfortable stay in school. From the school visit. Retire from the activity return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 7 of the 7 Days Uganda Tour:  Transfer back to Kampala with en-route stops along the way

You will wake up at 7:00 am to the sweet melodies of birds that will be singing their hearts off to the dawn of a new day and this will fairly make you understand why this Lake in called Bunyonyi which means a Lake of many small birds as you will hear interjecting voices of many birds singing together in uniformity as they welcome the day. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea and choose from any of the available wide selection of confectionaries. After having breakfast, you will embark on the transfer to Kampala 420km and Entebbe 470km from Lake Bunyonyi. During this 470km return journey to Entebbe, you will drive through the rolling hills of Mirama which will fascinate you given how the locals here have managed to tame these wildlands by cultivating along these steep slopes. Along the way back you will encounter many local men carrying farm produce on their bicycles headed towards the nearest local markets. You will make an en-route stop for lunch at Igongo country hotel and just a few kilometres outside Mbarara town to enjoy a locally inspired lunch buffet and if you wish, you can try out the Ishabwe dish wish is a local delicacy in this region. After having this sumptuous lunch buffet, you will proceed and visit the 1520AD solar eclipse monument which is found in Biharwe village. If you wish you can hike up the hill on which this monument is set and enjoy spectacular views of the undulating Ankole plains which form a nice background for you to take photos. While here, the guide will take you through the intriguing history behind this solar eclipse and how it managed to greatly change the destiny of three great ancient kingdoms all at once you will finally continue with the rest of your journey back to Entebbe airport where your safari will come to an end as your catch your departure flight back home.

7 Days Uganda Tour GORILLA TREKKING TIPS

  •   Mountain gorillas sometimes nest far from the start of your gorilla trek, you should ready yourself for a long walk and drink plenty of water.
  •    Eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be communicated.
  •    Smoking while inside the forest is strictly forbidden
  •    Bwindi being a tropical forest, it can rain anytime so we encourage you to carry a rain poncho
  •    Waterproof walking shoes or hiking boots are essential.
  •    Gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants
  •    Long trousers and long-sleeved sweaters or shirts while in the forest to avoid insect stings.
  •    Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash
  •    Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge
  •    As you prepare to come for your Uganda gorilla adventure, please do some exercises so that you prepare your body for gorilla trekking which can last between 3-8 hours
  •    In case you can’t walk for a very long time, you shouldn’t really worry about not being able to do gorilla trekking because there are potters who can carry you throughout at a small extra cost.
  •    Carry your sunscreen lotion to keep your skin safe from the tropical heat & sun rays
  •    When you get to the gorillas, don’t make noise because this agitates the gorillas
