Day 4 of the 9 Days Rwanda Tour: Undertake Chimpanzee trekking in the morning & Nyungwe Canopy Walk in the afternoon
You wake very early for breakfast and transfer at 5 am to Kyamudongo Forest about 2 hours drive to catch up with Chimpanzee briefing at 8 am. The briefing is conducted by the Park rangers after which you head to the forest in search of Chimpanzees. Nyungwe Forest National Park Rwanda is a rich montane forest cover known to have survived the last ice age and besides the Chimpanzees, it features other 12 species of Primates including the Black and white colobus monkeys (the largest grouping on the continent of Africa). 75 Species of mammals and 310 species of birds all thrive in Nyungwe forest making it very diverse and impressive to explore. The Chimpanzee safari Rwanda lasts about 2 – 5 hours with actual viewing limited to one hour for conservation purposes where you encounter them as they munch fruit, socialize, copulate, patrol and make their amazing pant hooting calls. In the afternoon, you undertake the famous Nyungwe canopy walk starting at Uwinka visitor centre. Following breakfast, undertake a hike to Mount Bisoke 3700m above sea level. Bisoke Volcano is part of the eight Mountains that form the Virunga massif and its adventure hike offers remarkable views of the surrounding volcanoes, Lake Ngezi Crater, and the Bisoke itself. The trek commences at Kinigi at 7 am and lasts around 7 hours for the round trip. It is not so strenuous and thus first time hikers can attempt it.
