Day 1 of the 9 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari: Arrive in Uganda (Entebbe International Airport) and transfer to a hotel

The first day of this Uganda safari adventure trip is dedicated to have you arrive in Uganda. Upon your landing at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly received by our company representative who will help you get comfortable in our 4×4 safari car then lead you on a journey to your already booked hotel as he takes you through some of the sceneries that will encounter on your way to the hotel and these include the history about Entebbe airport which was the epicentre for a 90 minutes military standoff between 100 Israel defence commandos and the Ugandan army on July 4th 1976. The Israeli forces had come to Entebbe in a rescue mission code-named Operation Entebbe. This mission was aimed to rescue Israel hostages that had been kept here on orders of the then Ugandan president Idi Amin. You will have glimpses of Lake Victoria the second biggest freshwater lake on the planet as you continue to your hotel in Entebbe. The first day of this Africa safari expedition kicks off with an early morning breakfast at your hotel at 6:00 am. At 6:30 am our experienced driver-guide will pick you up using one of our comfortable 4×4 safari cars and when you get to settle in, you will begin your road transfer from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park. This road adventure to Murchison Falls Park is an 8-9 hours’ drive covering 310km, this road trip gives you a glimpse into the life of ordinary Ugandans which you meet along the way while they engage in activities such as tilling their gardens, men and women riding bicycles loaded with usual farm produce heading towards next local markets to trade. Game Drives in Queen ELizabeth National Park-Uganda

On this day, you have an opportunity to explore Murchison Falls National Park wilderness to the fullest as you engage in a thrilling game drive and a fascinating boat cruise. The day will also start very early in the morning at 6:00 am with a breakfast buffet then you will get into the safari car for a thrilling a game drive on the northern banks of the park. This park sector is gifted with a wide variety of wild animals such as the Rothschild giraffes, Cape buffaloes, Large herds of Elephants, bushbucks, bohor reedbucks, oribi, waterbucks, and if lucky you might get a chance to also encounter the top predators of this park which are the mighty lions and the stocky leopards. After 3-4 hours of epic adventures in the Northern sector take a break and enjoy a picnic lunch. Right after your lunch, embark on a boat cruise up the stream of the Victoria Nile and to the base of the falls. On this 17-kilometre cruise, you have possibilities of sighting crocodiles and hippos along with elephants, waterbucks and Uganda Kobs drinking water on the riverside. It is blessed with a variety of bird species such as the pelican bee-eaters, Egyptian geese, Hornbills, goliath herons, the rare shoebill, stork kingfishers and cormorants. As you draw close to the falls, you will be welcomed by a thunderous roar of the mighty Murchison falls, which you will watch from a safe distance as they tumble from a 43-meter fall. Upon arriving on the bottom of the falls, you will embark on the hike to the top of the world’s powerful waterfall. The Nile River which is the longest in the world forces itself to pass through a less than 8m ravine before falling 43m below to what has been termed the devil’s cauldron forming a plume of spray marked by a thunderous roar and trademark rainbow. During the hike, you will enjoy the sounds of the Nile as it splashes its head on the impermeable rocks that have stood in its way for centuries past. This day of this trip is committed to having you transfer from Murchison Falls National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This day begins early in the morning at 6:00 am in order to enable you to cross with the 7:00 am boat then begin your thrilling road drive through the countryside’s of Uganda as you proceed to your next destination Fort portal which is about 350km or 5-6 hours’ drive away from Murchison Falls  National Park. This drive takes you through numerous villages giving you an insight into how ordinary Ugandan live. Still, on this journey, look out for sightings of men and women engaging in economic activities such as gardening, you might also encounter women carrying their little one’s monkey style as they strap them behind their backs. Upon your arrival to the town of Fort Portal, you will transfer to your lodge where you will have a lunch break and spend the rest of the afternoon unwinding from the journey or if you wish, you can visit the Amabere ga Nyina Mwiru caves in case time permits.

Tree Climbing Links in Ishasha Sector -Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda

You will wake up for an early morning breakfast at 6:30 am after which you get to embark on a 157km or 2-3 hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park engage in a morning game drive experience as you explore of more the Kasenyi sector of this park which is filled with a wide variety of animals such as 4 out of the 5 big five mammals which include lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, large herds of African bush elephants, Topis and many other antelope species. Retreat from the encounter which tends to take 2 – 5 hours, settle for lunch after which you gather at Mweya jetty for an afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise departing at 2 pm. You will have an afternoon 2-hour boat cruise running along the Kazinga channel a 40 km long channel that connects Lake George to Lake Edward. This cruise offers you an opportunity to see at close range the highest concentration of water submerged Hippos, surrounded by over 550 species of migrant and resident birds plus crocodiles drinking and resting at water edges. The cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. You retreat from the boat cruise and do an evening game drive along the Channel track to explore more wild game in their evening moments. Continue to the lodge for overnight.

This day is dedicated to having you transfer from savanna plains of Queen Elizabeth Park to the tropical jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The day will start with a morning game drive at 8:00 am through the Ishasha sector and this is aimed at maximizing your chances of encountering the tree climbing lions as well as the other animals that are found here like the African bush elephants in case you missed them during the evening game drive. From here you will embark on the transfer to Bwindi and the ends with your arrival to the lodge in Bwindi.

Day 7 of the 9 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari: Do gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for an evening boat ride

Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda

Gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Forest National ParkToday, you will have an early morning breakfast and be picked up by your guide for the amazing. Dressed in appropriate Gorilla tracking attire you will depart from the lodge with your packed lunch and gather at the park centre where you will be welcomed by the park sector warden who allocates you in groups of 8,  take you through the history of gorilla conservation in this particular park sector and Gorilla tracking regulations in general. While here you will enjoy a miniature cultural performance from the local Batwa people who will showcase their dance and musical skills. With your armed ranger in the lead, you will embark on the trek, searching for your allocated gorilla family. Along the way keep your eyes and ears on the lookout for several of the 350 bird species that are found in this park that might come your way, you will also be in a position to see some of the other primates here such as the Black and white colobus monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, different species of lizards such as the 3 horned chameleon and many more. On seeing the gorillas, you will be granted a full hour with these magical beings to watch them as they go about their daily lives and if you’re lucky you might get to see the young gorillas break the 7-meter rule as they get closure to you to have you incorporated in their games. After the full hour contact with these gorillas, you will transfer back to the park centre where you get awarded a Gorilla tracking certificate for your tracking efforts.  From here, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi where you get to relax from the rather a bit tedious gorilla trekking experience. On arrival to this beautiful tropical gem of the Kigezi highland, you will be fascinated by the tranquil waters of this lake and the numerous islands that are dotted all over this lake making it a tourist haven. You will proceed to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 8 of the 9 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari: Explore Lake Bunyonyi, do boat cruise & an evening Community walk

This day is fairly relaxed as you get to wake up a little bit late at 8:00 am for breakfast. After breakfast, you will enjoy a boat cruise which takes you on an exploration journey to several of the main Islands of Lake Bunyonyi. Some of the islands you will explore include the Bucuranuka (Upside down) Island which is believed to have buried people alive after refusing to offer local brew to an old woman and she cursed the Island turn upside down burying its inhabitants. You also visit the Akampane (Punishment) Island where the girls with unwanted premarital pregnancies would be dumbed to die of hunger or as they as try to swim back the mainland. There is also Bushara which has impressive forest cover with extensive Eucalyptus plantation, Kyahugye which is a resort Island with wildlife including waterbucks, De Brazza Monkeys and Impala antelope and Njuyera Islands which is a traditional leprosy healing centre which can also be visited. Have a lunch break then in the evening; embark on a hike to the top of the world point here which takes you 2200meters above sea level and if you manage to get to the top your efforts will be rewarded with spectacular views of the entire Bunyonyi Lake which will forever be imprinted in your memory. While at the top take time off to catch your breath and enjoy a picnic evening tea that comes with a warm cup of coffee & an assortment of snacks while you appreciate nature’s work and also re-energize before you slope down. After this hike, set off for a community tour as you visit the some of the local schools here where you get to meet the local students who are striving for a better future, if it’s fine with you, you can donate a few scholastic items to the school to enable these students to have a comfortable stay in school. From the school visit, return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 9 of the 9 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari: Drive to Kigali or transfer back to Kampala with en-route stop at the Equator

You will wake up at 8:00 am to the sweet melodies of birds that will be singing their hearts off to the dawn of a new day and this will fairly make you understand why this Lake in called Bunyonyi which means a Lake of many small birds as you will hear interjecting voices of many birds singing together in uniformity as they welcome the day. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea and choose from any of the available wide selection of confectionaries. After having breakfast,  you will check out of the lodge and depart of Kigali which is only 160km  or 3-4 hours’ drive away from Lake Bunyonyi or commences your transfer to Kampala 420km and Entebbe 470km from Lake Bunyonyi. During this 470km return journey to Entebbe, you will drive through the rolling hills of Mirama which will fascinate you given how the locals here have managed to tame these wildlands by cultivating along these steep slopes. Along the way back you will encounter many local men carrying farm produce on their bicycles headed towards the nearest local markets. You will make an en-route stop for lunch at Igongo country hotel and just a few kilometres outside Mbarara town to enjoy a locally inspired lunch buffet and if you wish, you can try out the Ishabwe dish wish is a local delicacy in this region. After having this sumptuous lunch buffet, you will proceed and visit the 1520AD solar eclipse monument which is found in Biharwe village. If you wish you can hike up the hill on which this monument is set and enjoy spectacular views of the undulating Ankole plains which form a nice background for you to take photos. While here, the guide will take you through the intriguing history behind this solar eclipse and how it managed to greatly change the destiny of three great ancient kingdoms all at once. From here proceed to the Equator point where another stop will be done to allow enjoy an experience of living in 2 separate halves of the world at the same time as this is the line that divides the earth into 2 equal halves! You should take a number of photos of yourself while here to allow have this magical moment captioned for eternity. You will also undertake a water experience which teaches how to differentiate the northern from the Southern hemisphere hence helping you to always be in the know of which half of the world you’re in anywhere in the world! You will finally continue with the rest of your journey back to Entebbe airport where your safari will come to an end as you catch your departure flight back home.

9 Days Uganda Tour Gorilla Trekking and Wildlife Safari – Gorilla trekking tips

  •   Mountain gorillas sometimes nest far from the start of your gorilla trek, you should ready yourself for a long walk and drink plenty of water.
  •    Eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be communicated.
  •    Smoking while inside the forest is strictly forbidden
  •    Bwindi being a tropical forest, it can rain anytime so we encourage you to carry a rain poncho
  •    Waterproof walking shoes or hiking boots are essential.
  •    Gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants
  •    Long trousers and long-sleeved sweaters or shirts while in the forest to avoid insect stings.
  •    Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash
  •    Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge
  •    As you prepare to come for your Uganda gorilla adventure, please do some exercises so that you prepare your body for gorilla trekking which can last between 3-8 hours
  •    In case you can’t walk for a very long time, you shouldn’t really worry about not being able to do gorilla trekking because there are potters who can carry you throughout at a small extra cost.
  •    Carry your sunscreen lotion to keep your skin safe from the tropical heat & sun rays
  •    When you get to the gorillas, don’t make noise because this agitates the gorillas
