Karamoja which was zeroed on following series of intense consultations from a range of African travel bloggers rose beyond the negative perception that people have about it in terms of underdeveloped infrastructure to prove its beautiful natural and cultural landscapes.  The home to the famous Kidepo valley National Park and the indigenous Karimojong, Karamoja offers a perfect off the beaten adventure suitable for encounter while on safari in Uganda.

Kidepo Valley National Park is home to exciting animals including the Cheetah found nowhere else in Uganda, Lions, Rothschild Giraffes, Leopard, Elephants, Buffaloes, Elands, Burchell’s Zebra among others. Besides animals, Kidepo also features very unique landscapes such as the sandy River Kidepo, the Lomej hills, Morungole Mountains and the savannah stretches of Narus Valley making it an extra ordinary Uganda tour destination.

The wonders Karamoja sub-region are beyond wildlife. A great 20 million year primate fossil was discovered in the year 2011 in Napak Mountains in the district of Napak. This came a year after a series of ancient paintings had been discovered on Loteliet rock, Nakapeliet rock, Nakadanya rock and the Kobebe hills.   The reddish paintings featured images of animals with people grazing holding their bows and arrows.

Regarding culture, Karamoja is home to one of the indigenous tribes of Africa – the indigenous Karimojong who thrive in Morungole Mountains. Besides the IK, the sub-region is also home to the pastoralist Karimojong who for long lived a nomadic culture practicing cattle rustling with the neighbouring Turkana of Kenya.  They live in impressively built Manyattas and cows are the centre of their livelihood and status. This makes the region a cultural hotspot thus serving the interests of cultural tour enthusiasts.

The Karamoja sub region also stretches to incorporate the amazing Pian Upe Game Reserve with its amazing wild game and scenic landscapes.  All these combine to justify the Karamoja’s crown.
