SMART CARDS ENHANCING EASY ACCESS TO TOURIST DESTINATIONS – UGANDA SAFARI NEWS
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) which is a semi – autonomous body responsible for managing and making use of wildlife in Uganda’s National parks and game reserves started an innovation of using smart cards at entrance points of some of the popular Uganda safari National Parks.
This initiative came in to ease the access of these protected areas for Uganda safari travellers and ensuring their safety as they are helped not to travel with huge sums of money that could attract en route robbery. This cashless system will see the tourists loading their money on the card that would be charged on arrival at the park gate.
This does not only reduce bureaucracy that has been involved but also enables those on safari in Uganda to traverse the remote up country areas with less worries over theft. Apparently, the gorilla trekking destination of Bwindi and Chimpanzee trekking destination of Kibale have benefited from the initiative. Similarly, other wildlife safari parks of Murchison, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo are also using the cash less system.
Other Uganda safari destinations of Ruwenzori, Mgahinga, Mount Elgon, Semuliki and Kidepo will be added onto the modern system in the due course after the system is installed at the entry points of those protected areas. Uganda Wildlife Authority also intends to decentralize the system to avoid confining it at the park headquarters in Kampala. This in turn will save travellers on Uganda safaris time which they will in turn use to enjoy Uganda’s magnificent attractions.
