Government promises Bunyoro in Hoima to get railway line and airport by 2017

The Uganda safari sector shall in the future have railway transport added to its transport modes in the execution of their business. This comes after the Ugandan government has come up with plans of constructing a railway line proposed to pass through Bunyoro sub-region as well as an airport to ease on the transportation element in regard to the oil-rich area. This will not only boost the trade and industrial sector but also contribute to the Uganda safaris/ tourism and wildlife sector.

Mr. Shem Bageine, the East African Affairs State Minister, stated that this proposed railway line will be constructed to run from Pakwach to Kasese District along the Kaiso-Tonya area found in Hoima District.

The Oil explorers have so far confirmed existence of oil deposits within the Albertine graben estimated to be over 3.5 billion barrels. Mr. Bageine , said that this proposed 400-kilometre railway line and an airport in Hoima shall be used to facilitate not only the trade industry but also the Uganda safari/ Uganda wildlife sector  plus all the  East African states as well .He explained this good news to Bunyoro Kingdom officials during a sensitization outreach which was graced by political, civil society, religious and cultural leaders during which government officials taught about the East African community integration.

The proposed Plans ,According to the East African Affairs State Minister, as part of the infrastructural developments in the oil industry, the government has plans to upgrade Kigumba Petroleum Institute to university level status, and also upgrade the Masindi-Kampala road. Mr. Bageine further said that the government also has  plans to complete the construction of an oil refinery in Kabaale parish as well as Buseruka Sub-county in Hoima District by the year 2017.

Mr. Ernest Kiiza, The State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs, urged Bunyoro Kingdom members, civil society activists together with the private sector to support the fast-tracking of the East African community and utilize the customs union which allows free circulation of goods and services such as Uganda safari programs among member states.   He explained that under the region’s common market Protocol, people in Bunyoro, just like other East Africans, shall have freedom to move, work and a right of residence within East African states which will highly boost Uganda’s wildlife sector/ Uganda safari industry.

Mr. Kiiza said that in Bunyoro region there will be benefit of the common market for its skilled and unskilled labour, business community, and other people with social and cultural intentions shall increase on government revenue.

The Omukama of Bunyoro, Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru, gladly welcomed the East African integration move. He said that such initiatives aimed at uniting Africans are welcome. It will enhance trade and tourism in my Kingdom.
