The destination Rwanda has launched a project that intends to further the mountain hiking tours in Rwanda and the region of East Africa in general.
Named the 7 Summits Africa project, it was launched on Nov 3rd 2017 at Kigali Serena Hotel – one of the top notch facilities serving the high end travellers on safari in Rwanda. The project which seeks to bring together mountain hiking adventure tour activities in East Africa into a single tourism product, covers the destinations of Mount Karisimbi in Rwanda, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke in Uganda, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Mount Kenya and Mount Meru in Kenya and then famous Nyiragongo Volcano in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
The launch ceremony which was honoured by a range of stake holders including those from Rwanda Development Board, Tour operators, media and Mountain hikers on Rwanda safari commemorated the beginning of this new product. The team of nine (9) mountaineers from this project set out to summit the seven Mountains in duration of seven (7) weeks.
Nyiragongo Climbing adventure tour in Congo was the first to be covered after which the team will embark on Mount Karisimbi climb in Rwanda after which they head to Kenya before embarking on Mount Rwenzori climbing expedition. The last leg will be Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania which is also the highest Mountain in Africa.
The Mountaineering project will not only limit itself to Mountains but can as well open up participants to explore gorilla trekking in Uganda Rwanda Congo or East Africa wildlife safaris in Kenya and Tanzania.
