A HIKE TO SIPI FALLS ON MOUNT ELGON IN UGANDA

Going hiking to Sipi Falls on Mount Elgon on a Uganda Safari gives you an opportunity of stunning views of Mount Elgon and the plains of Eastern and Northern Uganda. The falls themselves are often described as perhaps the most romantic in Africa.

There are quite numbers of falls, that are not usually captured in most of the promotional materials. And these can be come to via a network of well-maintained designated local trails, but just as those going for Gorilla trekking Safaris in the south western side of the country, the hike/walk would require one to have some reasonable level of fitness. Most times guides at the resort tend to offer only the short walk around the falls beneath the village, but there is also a possibility of arranging for longer walks on request.

It normally takes about 2 hours hiking around the Sipi falls and this activity is better embarked on during the morning hours. And one agree that the scenery here is breathtaking. It offers a great chance to view birds amidst the cool weather. The trails are steep and slippery, but get more adventurous as you go through the caves as you hear sounds of the waters hit the gigantic rocks.

On road to Sipi Falls, visiting tourists have a chance to appreciate the native people and their source of livelihood. The natives in this region are known to grow Arabica coffee, and are willing to offer agricultural tours to their plantations, coffee processing and tasting.

The impressive Sipi Falls are located on the lower slopes of Mount Elgon at an altitude of 1,750m, close to the village of Sipi, 60 kilometers and a drive of close to two and half to three hours from Mbale town on the Kapchorwa road though this depends more on the weather conditions. The waterfall and the surrounding area are just magnificent, making it a perfect place to spend a few days relaxing on a Safari to Uganda.
