Overview

This is a 12 day Uganda Tour taking you for the very best safari destinations in Uganda. This Uganda Tour is available on both scheduled and private basis. The tour takes you to Murchison Falls National Park believed by many to be the most beautiful national park. A launch cruise on the Nile is one of the most adventurous tourist activities that cannot easily be erased from tourist memories. Later the tour will take you through the western arm of the Rift Valley as you drive to Kibale Primate Forests.

This Uganda Tour will also take you for a wildlife tour through the savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park where you can see a wide diversity of game such as elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos, and leopards. Other tour activities included in this Uganda Tour within Queen Elizabeth National Park include a hunt for the tree-climbing lions lounging on old fig trees in the Ishasha region as well as a launch cruise on Kazinga Channel where schools of hippos and crocodiles can be seen.  A wide variety of birds at the channel present a haven to birders yet the tropical rain forests of Maramagambo are a treasure to nature lovers.

This tour later takes you to Bwindi Gorilla Forest for a gorilla tour through this ancient rainforest. Tracking some of the last remaining 700 mountain gorillas in the world is breath taking and very rewarding. This activity will be carried out in Bwindi where there are 3 habituated gorilla families. From Bwindi the tour will take you to the Beautiful Lake Bunyonyi the deepest lake with historical islands. As you return to Kampala you will have another game viewing tour in Lake Mburo National park, another beautiful savanna park in the Western part of Uganda.

Uganda tour Detailed Itinerary; 12 Days

Day 1: Undertake the Kampala City Tour

After breakfast our tour guide will pick you from your hotel for a Kampala City tour as you refresh yourself from the jet lag. The tour will take you to different heritage sites which include the Kasubi tombs-a burial site for the Kings of Buganda, the Uganda museum-the oldest museum in East Africa, Makerere University-one of the oldest educational institution in Africa and the Baha’i temple-the only temple of Baha’i faith in Africa. You go ahead to explore the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine where the 45 Christian converts were murdered on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda, the Namirembe and Rubaga Cathedrals, the Uganda National Museum, the Uganda and series of Monuments including the Independence monument. It is a rewarding moment to explore the heritage of Kampala City in one day. Spend the evening relaxing, or carry your own shopping in Kampala’s local markets that are also worthy to visit.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. Visit the Ziwa Rhinos Sanctuary en route

After breakfast, leave Kampala for Murchison Falls National Park located in North Western part of Uganda 311km about 5 hours’ drive. You pass via the Luweero have a panoramic drive northwest through the former battle zone of the Luwero Triangle. Have a stop at Ziwa Rhino’s sanctuary for a brief tour of this rhino restoration project. Following extinction of Uganda’s rhino in the early 1980s during the period of civil unrest and heavy poaching, a sanctuary has now been established to breed southern white rhinos, and restore rhino populations in Uganda’s protected areas in a later stage. Apparently a count of fifteen Rhinos thrives in the sanctuary and can be explored. You retreat from the activity and connect to Murchison Falls through Masindi town and the lush tropical forest of Budongo arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 3: Game Drive / Wildlife viewing in Murchison and afternoon Nile launch cruise

After breakfast, go for a morning game viewing tour which will take you through different habitats. On the drive you may see different animals which include giraffes, Elephants, Bushbucks, Lion, Jackal, Hartebeest and a variety of birdlife. Return to the lodge for lunch and later proceed to the river for a launch trip from where a number of animals can be seen. These include schools of Hippos, crocodiles, water birds, sometimes elephants, among others. Many birds can also be seen at the banks of the river. These include goliath herons, Egyptian geese, pelican bee-eaters, kingfishers, Hornbills, cormorants and the rare shoebill stork. Retire for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tour in Budongo Forest and visit the top of the falls

After breakfast you will enter the tropical rain forest of Budongo for a guided nature walk. From the forest, there are a number of chimpanzees as well as other primates. Have lunch and connect back to Murchison Falls NP to take a hike to the top of the falls. From the different viewpoints you will be able to see the refreshing spray as the world’s longest river, the Mighty Nile thunders through different rapids from a 7-metre gap to fall over 43 metres below. Retire for dinner and overnight

Day 5: Transfer to Fort Portal via the Albertine Rift

After breakfast start off from Murchison Falls National Park for Fort portal. Heading Southwest wards through the Albertine rift, this journey takes you through beautiful scenic area characterized by escarpments of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. On reaching the colorful and beautiful Fort Portal town located in the shadow of the mythical Mountains of the Moon, continue to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Do Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park and Bigodi wetland walk

After an early breakfast, proceed to Kibale Forest National Park for Chimpanzee trekking. While on the track you will be able to encounter other different primate species which include Red-Colobuses, grey cheeked Mangabeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, the blue Monkeys as well as other wildlife such as butterflies, birds and many other small insects. Your tour guide will guide you through tree identification in the forest as well as in explaining to you the other features of the forest. After tracking which tend to last 2 – 5 hours, you return to the starting for lunch after which you will take a nature walk through the Bigodi Swamp. Bigodi swamp features 138 Species of birds including the Great Blue Turaco. The swamp also features the Sitatunga Antelope and the tour to the community to explore their heritage. Retire for overnight

Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and do an afternoon Kazinga Channel Launch cruise

After breakfast drive to Queen Elizabeth National park 157km about 3 hours’ drive. You will enter the park while viewing the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range. With a game drive en-route you may see different animals which include the comical warthogs, lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, hyenas and a variety of antelope species. After lunch, proceed to Kazinga Channel for a launch cruise. On the cruise different animals can be seen drinking water along the shores such as elephants and Buffaloes. The cruise also offers the sights of the aquatic species themselves including hippos and Nile Crocodiles which would crawl back to their waters upon sensing you.  After the activity, you drive along the channel track for dinner and overnight

Day 8: Undertake wild game viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park and afternoon Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura gorge

Wake up early morning and go for a game viewing tour to seek out wildlife. You explore the savannah landscapes of Kasenyi with magical wild game views including the lions, leopards, the side stripped jackals, spotted hyenas, the elephants, the Cape Buffaloes, the water bucks, the Uganda Kobs the Vervet monkeys and Olive Baboons. You settle for relaxation and lunch and in the afternoon, you connect to Kyambura gorge for an afternoon Chimpanzee trekking. You undertake 2 – 5 hour chimp trek inclusive of one hour direct encounter with Chimpanzees thriving in a gorge that is 100m deep covered with lush tropical forest that thrives below sea level. You encounter the chimps as they feed, mate, play and patrol before retiring to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 9: Transfer to Ishasha Sector and do whole day game drive in search of tree climbing lions

After breakfast, embark on the transfer to Ishasha in the south of Queen Elizabeth National Park and upon arrival, you embark on the game drive in the savannah landscapes of Ishasha with impressive fig trees which are a darling to the Tree climbing lions. Ishasha sector is one of the only two places in the world that travellers can have the opportunity to view the tree climbing lions. The drive also exposes you to a range of other wild game including the waterbucks, the Buffaloes and elephants. You retire for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Visit the coffee Plantations en route

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, located in the south western part of Uganda. En route, you explore the impressive coffee plantation tour in Kanungu district to explore the local traditions of coffee planting, maintaining and harvesting. You listen to a themed interpretation of the locals including the cultural attachment that the coffee contains. Learn the significance of coffee seeds in friendship making in the African traditions. Continue on the drive to Bwindi arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 11: Gorilla Tracking Tour in the Impenetrable Forest and encounter the surrounding people

Go for the gorilla trekking encounter in the forested landscapes of Bwindi. Explore the steep densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. An inspiring moment! Tracking in Bwindi Gorilla Forest requires stamina and can often take most of the day. It ranges from 2 – 8 hours and includes one hour of direct encounter with the gorillas as you view them forage and socialize. Retreat from the activity and connect to the lodge for relaxation. In the evening, you can undertake a community walk to explore the local traditions of the Batwa and the Bakiga including exploring their building architecture, social setting and impressive dance performances. Retire for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 12: Transfer back to Kampala with a stop at Igongo Cultural Center and Uganda Equator

After breakfast, embark on the transfer back to Kampala. You drive through impressive Kigezi Highlands and the hills of Ntungamo before approaching Mbarara town the largest town in the sub region and continue for 12km to make a lunch stop at Igongo Cultural center for traditional lunch. You proceed to make another stop at the Equator for amazing photo takes and souvenir purchase. Arrive in Kampala in the evening.
