The 12 Days Uganda Upper Nile Safari Adventure is a remarkable safari package that allows you to explore the northern and eastern part of Uganda forfeiting the mountain gorillas in the southwest. Undertake a thrilling Nile launch cruise in the afternoon exploring the aquatics of the Nile like Nile Crocodiles, Hippos and Shoebill stork

Day 10: Explore the top of the Murchison falls and then visit the Bomu Women group exploring the traditions of the local people

Day 11: Undertake Chimpanzee trekking in the forest reserve of Budongo, continue and track white Rhinos in Ziwa Sanctuary en route before continuing to Kampala

Day 12: Departure. (If the flight is in the evening, visit the Christ our Vision Child Care Orphanage & Kampala City tour)

Day 1: Arrive in Uganda (Entebbe International Airport) and transfer to the lodge

Arrive in Uganda following the flight from your respective country of origin. You land at Entebbe International Airport which is the main gateway to Uganda where you will find the company representative dedicated to offer you a courteous welcome. The amazing weather and brightening atmosphere on the shores of Lake Victoria give you a remarkable first impression of Uganda. After briefing about Uganda and the safari, you will connect to the respective hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 2: Tour Jinja Area – the source of the world’s longest Nile River and do half day white water rafting

After breakfast, transfer to Jinja driving 80km from the Uganda’s capital City Kampala which takes about 2 hours. The drive takes you past the impressive landscapes of the city outskirts before entering into the sugarcane plantations at Lugazi, the forested lands of Mabira and eventually arriving in Jinja for impressive white water rafting. The Nile River moves out the Victoria Lake at the submerged Rippon falls heading to the north of Uganda before continuing to empty into Mediterranean Sea. On its course it meets series of impermeable rocks that form cascades and rapids. Thus, getting onto the rafts to undertake such challenging adventure is worthy undertaking. You raft in the company of expert guides who are at your rescue in case the waters push you off the raft. The crowd cheers from the locals on the river bank enjoying the free sights of your struggle with waters makes you part of the community and loved more. This adventure goes for the half day after which you relax a little and then connect to the source of the Nile in the afternoon. The boat cruise to the source of the Nile is a rewarding adventure as it exposes you to opportunities of exploring counts of birds including beautiful Kingfishers. Stepping the point where John Speke stood as the first European to discover the source of the River Nile takes you back to the ancient times when the mystical Nile River Source lured great men into the world of the unknown.

Day 3: Drive to Mbale and hike the Elgon Mountain – the fourth tallest in East Africa for half day

Embark on the drive to Mbale town after an early morning breakfast. The drive takes you through the beautiful eastern Uganda landscapes featuring lovely wetlands and swamps before approaching the extensive rice plantations that have made this region the hub of Uganda’s rice. The drive covers 150km taking about 2 – 3 hours’ drive after which you gather at the Mount Elgon Headquarters to arrange for the mountain hiking adventure.  Elgon Mountain rises to 4,321m above sea level and has the world’s largest mountain caldera which extends to 42km2 in Size and the mountain has the largest volcanic base in the world stretching to 4000km2. Therefore undertaking a day hike to the mountain is such a rewarding adventure as you encounter beautiful scenic views, the lovely flora and mountain fauna. The panoramic of the Bagisu farmlands and their settlement is impressive to encounter. Retreat in the evening and connect to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 4: Visit the Sebei, Bagisu and Ndorobo people for the whole day to explore into their authentic heritage and livelihood.

Embark on the cultural and traditional exploration of the local people immediately after breakfast. The Bagisu are primarily agriculturalists thus have got impressive coffee plantations where you  join as they work in their gardens and learn the coffee growing practices especially the local way of planting, maintenance and harvesting . You have the opportunity to participate in the experience. Apart from the coffee, Bagisu have got great cultural heritage including the imbalu (Male circumcision) ceremony where you can participate when it is a season for it or listen to the stories about it. Their local dance called Kadodi is among the best traditional dances in the region. From the Bagisu, you continue and visit the Ndorobo people who are known for their bull fighting event and their authentic culture less influenced by the outside world. The Sebei people also thrive in the area and are well known for their notorious female genital Mutilation which is now abolished thus you can enjoy their stories detailing the history of the practice. Retreat from the day encounter and retire for relaxation, diner and overnight

Day 5: Hike the Sipi Falls and drive to Kidepo Valley National Park in the far north east of Uganda

Embark on the Sipi falls hike after breakfast for sight-seeing experience. Enjoy the impressive scenery as you hike to the falls including the sights of Elgon Mountain and the plains of Karamoja. The Sipi falls present a lovely flow of water and a good site for photography. Return from the activity and embark on the drive to Kidepo Valley National Park driving through the impressive protected area landscapes of Pian Upe and Matheniko Bokora Game Reserves enjoying the sights of Mount Moroto and eventually arriving in Kidepo in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 6: Undertake morning game drive in the rolling dry savannah landscapes of Kidepo Valley National Park and visit the Pastoralist Karamajong Community in the afternoon

After an early cup of coffee / tea at your respective lodge, embark on the impressive game viewing experience in the rolling savannah plains of Kidepo Valley National Park. The Kidepo’s impressive landscapes supports counts of wild game including the lions, elephants, Buffaloes , Rothschild giraffes, greater and lesser kudu, cheetah, eland, leopard, and black-backed and side-striped jackals, spotted hyena,  Burchell’s zebra, warthog, bush pig,  bushbuck, Defassa waterbuck, bush duiker, Bohor reedbuck, oribi and Jackson’s hartebeest. The drive through the Narus Valleys offers you possibility of encountering such wildlife while the stretch to Kidepo valley exposes you the beautiful sand river which tends to be dry in the dry season and the views of the Ostrich which exists only here in the whole of Uganda. Retreat from the activity and get to the lodge for relaxation and lunch after which you embark on the tour to the Karamajong community. The tour to the pastoralist Karimojong exposes you to the impressive setting of their cultural Manyattas and their architecture, their cattle Kraals, their impressive crafts and art not forgetting the traditional performances. Embark on the drive to Murchison Falls National Park passing through impressive landscapes of northern Uganda former dwelling place for the Lord’s Resistance Army headed by Joseph Kony. You are taken back to imagine the horror that happened in this part of the country by viewing the war ruins and the people themselves some with no lips and others with no ears. You drive past Kitgum, Gulu and eventually arrive in Murchison Falls National Park in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Head to the rolling savannah landscapes of Murchison Falls National Park for an impressive morning game drive in the northern part of the park. The activity which commences at 7am takes you to the haven of wild game catching up with them before they disperse off completely to graze and hunt. You follow the designated tracks including the Buligi, Albert, Queen, Pakuba among others stretching to the delta area gaining impressive views of wildlife and the landscapes. The possible sights include Rothschild Giraffes, the Jackson’s Hartebeest, the lions, the leopards, the elephants, the Cape Buffaloes, the Oribis, Kobs among others. You retreat from the activity that lasts 3 – 4 hours and get back to the lodge for relaxation and lunch after which you gather at Paraa jetty for an afternoon boat cruise commencing at 2pm. The Nile launch cruise offers you an opportunity to explore the calm waters of Nile River as they approach the delta gaining views of the aquatic Species like Nile crocodiles and Hippos not forgetting the lucky sights of the most sought after shoebill stork.  The boat stops at the bottom of Murchison Falls – the world’s powerful water fall enjoying one of the magical sceneries in Uganda. Retreat from the activity and connect to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Explore the top of the Murchison falls and then visit the Bomu Women group exploring the traditions of the local people

After breakfast, cross with the ferry to the southern section and drive to the top of the falls to explore the famous Murchison Falls. You encounter the world’s longest Nile River as squeezes itself to pass through an 8m ravine forming a plume of spray marked by a thunderous roar and a trade mark rainbow as it falls 43m below to the Devils Cauldron.  The site is impressive for photography. Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to the Boomu Village where you take a walk in the Kigaragara village participating in the craft making process, the black smith, the crop growing, the preparation of traditional food, storytelling and exploring the local school. The village has local bandas where you can opt to spend an overnight to immerse fully in the life of the local people or you can continue to Budongo forest for an overnight in a well set accommodation unit.

Day 11: Undertake Chimpanzee trekking in the forest reserve of Budongo, continue and track white Rhinos in Ziwa Sanctuary en route before continuing to Kampala

Embark on the chimpanzee trekking after breakfast at 8am. Budongo Forest Reserve features more than 800 chimpanzees some of which are fully habituated and ready for tracking. You head to the forest after briefing by the respective ranger guide in search of chimpanzees. The walk through the forest offers impressive views of the bird species and unique flora since Budongo is one of the mature forests in East Africa. Birds like Yellow-footed Flycatcher and the Illadopsis puveli are endemic to the forest. The eventual encounter with the chimpanzees as they roll themselves on tree branches, munch fruit, make pant hooting calls, patrol and the young ones playing give an exciting experience worth exploring. The activity tends to go from 2 – 5 hours including one hour of direct encounter with chimpanzees where you can take pictures unlimited. Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to Kampala. You drive past Masindi town and make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for white Rhino tracking. Encountering the white Rhinos thriving in the savannah thicket of Ziwa is rewarding. They only exist here in the whole of Uganda and would mark the encounter with the Big five   on your 12 days safari. Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to Kampala arriving late in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight

If the flight is in the evening, you can do a half day tour of Kampala exploring the sites of historical, religious, cultural and political significance. These include; the Ugandan Parliament, the Uganda National Museum, Namugongo Martyrs Shrine where 45 converts were burnt because of converting to Christianity, the Rubaga Cathedral which is the headquarter for catholic faith in Uganda, the Namirembe Cathedral for Protestants and the Baha’i Temple which is the only temple of the Baha’i in Africa.
