The tourism industry in Uganda has always required adequate human resource to bring with them expertise that would see the travellers on Uganda safaris and tours have a memorable stay derived from quality service and high class hospitality. The aspect of human resource in the tourism industry is very crucial. The tourism industry is a people industry where the product is hardly inseparable from the people. Therefore, having a batch of qualified graduates setting out to join the field is a positive trend towards increasing safari tours to Uganda.
Highly to acknowledge is the number of tourism students of Makerere University that are set to graduate on 21st January 2015. Makerere University which is also the oldest highest institution of learning in Uganda and the most prestigious University in East Africa is releasing close to 100 students who have been on a three year degree course, training on a wide range of aspects within the tourism industry including; protected and conservation areas management, tour and travel operations, hotel management, transport management, organizational management including human resource management, tour guiding and leadership skills among other aspects that are very significant in transforming the Uganda’s tourism industry thus delivering the memorable experience for travellers on safaris and tours in Uganda.
The graduating students scored a range of degree classes including Siima Simon Peter Reg. no: 11/u/2689 who got a first class honors degree majoring in tour and travel management. Other considerable students got second class upper and second class lower but all with a recommendable performance which will be beneficial to the sector once they join the field.
