Ministry of tourism in Uganda identifies a new birding spot

Tourists that come for a Birding Uganda safari have been given anew birding site in a bid to boost birding Uganda safaris.One can now have a Birding Uganda safari-tour at Kasenge forest locate d off the Kampala- Jinja highway officially opened lately making it the 35th most important Uganda birding site.

The launch of this Birding site will help Uganda build the confidence to become the world`s preferred birding destination come 2014. Experienced tourist guides from the Uganda Safari Guides Association (USAGA), registered a variety of birds up to 125 bird species in Kasenge within a four hour tour.

According to  the USAGA’s chairman Herbert Byaruhanga, Kasenge forest, has more than 170 acres and not only rich in birds species but a home to the giant king fisher and Tit Hyliae which are two of the 10 rare two of Uganda`s most sought-after birds.On the inauguration function,Mr. Herbert Byarugaba intimated that;  “It is very important that we come out and market Uganda as on big birding destination, we haven’t done so because we have not been coming out to appreciate birds as a business that is why people do not know about it,” .

The minister of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities Maria Mutagamba, said that the opening of Kasenge kick started the campaign to get Uganda named as the world`s best Birding destination 2013-2014.  She promised that the country will put all its efforts towards promoting bird watching hence boosting the Uganda safari  industry commonly termed as the tourism industry. Uganda has been regarded the best birding destination in Africa for birders as well as other Africa safari lovers. This country Uganda proudly has over 1,058 bird species, forming 11% of the global as well as 50% of the total Africa’s bird species.
