Mountain gorillas are commonly found in Uganda and in Rwanda, in Uganda, they are found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and also in Rwanda, they are found in Volcanoes National Park , these mountain gorillas have attracted tourists to come for mountain gorilla tracking safaris.
Tracking mountain gorillas can be done any time of the year in all the countries where they are found, that’s Uganda and Rwanda, this is mainly because of the relatively rainy seasons in the mountain gorilla national parks, therefore many tourists prefer to come for gorilla safaris in the months of June to September and then in December, January and February.
However , in Rwanda, the first rains start coming in late February through march, may and April, therefore many tourists try to avoid these months for fear of getting muddy and all wet while tracking the mountain gorillas. During these months, there is plenty of gorilla food down slopes where they find it’s much colder on the upper slopes. The mountain gorillas keep on the lower slopes where they can find it warmer and get food easily.
In Uganda, the rains are in March, April and May, this rain rather makes it harder to trek the steep terrains. Even then, the rain only comes for like 1-2 hours in like every 2-3 days and the sun comes out. We have noticed that even in the so-called drier months, the rain will often come in.so, this time it makes gorilla trekking in Bwindi hard especially in the rainy seasons.
Also gorilla trekking can be attributed to the weather seasons in the visitors’ home country and also the nature of their jobs, in summer for example in Europe, the number of gorilla trekker’s increase and the gorilla trackers decrease in winter. However, there are other gorilla trekkers who often take advantage of the seasonal discounts on mountain gorilla tracking permits.
