World Tourism Day set for next month
The world tourism day is globally celebrated on the 27th of September each year as a way of bringing people together to reflect on the importance and benefits of tourism. Uganda has decided to have the 2018 world tourism day celebrations extended from September 6th 8:00 am to September 28th 5:00 pm. The celebration will last for 23 days with a variety of activities aimed at creating awareness promoting tourism and building capacity among stakeholders.
Jinja source of the Nile will be the host to this year’s celebrations themed, “Tourism and the Digital Transformation.” Every nature lover should get ready to explore Jinja during this world tourism day celebrations. The celebrations will start on the 6th of September in Kampala with the Uganda Hotels and Restaurants Expo, sports activities, tourism forums, workshops in Kampala. ‘Tulambule’ (lets tour) Busoga region and a climax of the official World Tourism Day celebrations on Thursday 27th September at the Source of River Nile, in Jinja will end the celebrations.
If you have planned a Uganda safari during this period, adding a one-day Jinja tour to your itinerary is the best idea. Come enjoy the activities at the source of the Nile and enjoy other activities organized by the Uganda Tourism Board for that day. There’s no need on where to stay in Jinja since the town has all budget type hotels.
Celebrating tourism with the theme Tourism and the Digital Transformation will help bring forward the digital ways of improving and conserving nature for tourism. The world tourism day is worth celebrating since last year 2016/2017, tourism in Uganda brought in over USD 1.4 billion, an increase of over USD100 million from the previous financial year. The industry has since employed over one million people working in tourism related businesses.
