Positioned in Kichwamba Sub county Rubirizi District, Kyambura Game Lodge has been one of the luxury lodges serving affluent travelers on Safaris in Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The unfortunate incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday Jan 17th when the wild fire from Queen Elizabeth National Park spread fast through the natural thicket to erase the Cottages at Kyambura Game Lodge which was built using local materials like natural wood and grass thatch.
Kyambura Game Lodge which is separated from the park by the famous Kyambura Gorge one of the popular destinations for Chimpanzee tours in Uganda lost a range of eight (8) cottages, restaurant, bar along with reception and laundry to the blazing fire. The efforts by the lodge staff to stop the fire using water and sand could not yield any success.
This is the second time that Kyambura Game lodge is being put down to ashes by the wild fire. The first incident occurred in February 2012 but the reconstruction was successful and the lodge has been operating, serving the esteemed guests including those on Uganda Safaris and Tours.
The management of the lodge allege that Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) could have set the fire to allow grass re-growth in some parts of Queen Elizabeth National Park but due to strong winds, the fire extended to erase the Lodge.
This is a real setback in the Uganda’s tourism infrastructure and a real inconvenience to the guests that had their bookings already set at Kyambura Game Lodge. However, a range of other facilities like Mweya Safari Lodge, Katara Lodge, Kasenyi Safari Camp, Enganzi Lodge among others are well set to provide accommodation to the Uganda tour undertakers visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park.
