This park was first gazetted is 1925 and it was a small area bounded by Karisimbi, Bisoke and Mikeno volcanoes, these were intending to protect the gorillas from poaching, this park has so far attracted many visitors who have come for gorilla trekking safaris to Rwanda.
This park is a home to mountain gorillas and this means that Rwanda has been earning high revenues which have helped it at developing the tourism industry with in the country; this has also helped at increasing gorilla tracking safaris to Rwanda
The park has got many activities which can be enjoyed by the tourists who visit the park, these include; gorilla trekking, the numerous caves, cultural and community tourism initiatives and also bird watching which is loved by the birders, all these have helped at increasing safaris to Rwanda.
The park also offers a lot of nature walks and trails which have continued to attract many tourists to come to enjoy the variety of animals which are found along the trails in the park, this has also attracted many tourists who have come for gorilla trekking tours to Rwanda.
The park management however has come up with new proposals for the developing the parks and these include; the sports part of it and encouraging of mountain climbing, this will further help in increasing the number of safaris in Rwanda.
