The New Airport Terminal at Entebbe International Airport

On Wednesday 10th January 2024, Uganda officially opened the new airport Terminal at Entebbe International Airport to cater to the increasing number of travelers in and out of the country.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces Engineering brigade began constructing the terminal in May 2023 as an important facility to ease the traveling of both the general public and international travelers.

The exceptional features in the terminal include a firefighting system, elevators, air conditioning, and a canopy. Travelers who are departing the country will also have their luggage driven to the terminal and not lifted like how it was previously done.

Gen Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Transport and Works, Jim Muhwezi the Security Minister, Lucy Nakyoba the Chairperson of the National Organizing Committee for Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and other UCCA officials officiated the opening of the terminal.

The new Entebbe International Airport terminal has facilitated the ease in the transportation of delegates for the NAM-G77+ conferences from the 15th to the 20th of 2024 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

The project of the final terminal connecting to the new terminal will be completed by July 2024. The construction of a VVIP parking area and a new search area establishment is ongoing.

What it Means for Tourists and Travelers to Uganda

As a tourist or traveler, you will be able to smoothly have your travels through the country in an organized way. Additionally, travelers can be driven through the terminal building safely with the presence of CCTV cameras.

These changes will also allow the easier and timely transportation of passengers and their luggage within the airport.

Unlike the previous transportation challenges that were faced during the 2007 CHOGM meetings at the airport, Uganda has improved the transportation services in the country through the new airport terminal.
