Day 1 of the 7 Days Uganda safari Gorilla trekking Uganda Wildlife Safari: Transfer to Lake Mburo NP, make a stop en route at the Equator, afternoon boat ride on Lake Mburo upon arrival and night game drive

After breakfast embark on the transfer to Lake Mburo National Park in the south-west of Uganda departing your place of stay at 6:30 am. The drive to Lake Mburo National Park Uganda is 240km about 3 – 4 hours’ drive and you will break this journey after driving only 77km from Kampala at the Equator crossing Kayabwe which is a re-known site for photography since most of the travellers prefer taking pictures with one leg in one hemisphere and the other leg in a different hemisphere. There are also geographical experiments that can be carried out for the keen geographers to demonstrate the geographical separation of the north and southern hemispheres. You retreat from this break and continue on the drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Upon arrival, you check-in at the lodge, settle for lunch after which you connect to Rwonyo jetty for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo. The thrilling afternoon boat ride presents rewarding views of the calm waters of Lake Mburo that provide an ideal habitat for Hippos and the Nile Crocodiles. The views of fringing swamp and Kigarama hill beyond are also amazing. The bird species like the African Fish eagle and the African fin foot may be spotted during the boat ride.  At 7 pm, do a night game drive in Lake Mburo National Park. Explore the Nocturnal animals like hare, porcupine, Aardvark, white-tailed mongoose, honey badger, side – stripped jackal, bush pig, spotted hyena, serval cat, Jenet cat, civet, thick-tailed Galago and black galago.

After breakfast, gather at the respective park headquarters for briefing at 8 am and eventual start of the gorilla trekking encounter. You follow the trails of your respective gorilla family traversing the forest with is hilly forested landscapes and deep saddles. Wake up for breakfast after which you embark on the chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura gorge where you slope down a gorge of 100m deep with sights of magical lush mature tropical forest thriving below sea level supporting counts of chimpanzees. Hiking the gorge’s steep slopes in search of chimpanzees is a challenging task that the whole encounter to go beyond the chimps. The eventual encounter with the chimpanzees as they munch fruits, make pant hooting calls, socialize, patrol, copulate and roll themselves in tree branches derive an exciting memory that will last for a lifetime.  Retreat from the encounter which tends to take 2 – 5 hours and embark on the transfer to Jinja arriving in the late evening.
