Day 1 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. Undertake Rhino tracking en route at Ziwa Sanctuary

Following your breakfast at your place of stay in Kampala, you depart for the transfer to Murchison Falls National Park at 6:30am driving through the beautiful landscapes of Nakasongora and the famous Luwero triangle where the NRA bush war was fought. The journey is 311km about 5 hours’ drive excluding stops en route. You make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary 7km from the main road at Nakitoma to undertake a memorable Rhino tracking encounter. The sanctuary is a home to 15 southern white Rhinos thriving in beautiful natural savannah woodland with enough grass for grazing and trees for shade. Retreat from 1 – 3 hour Rhino experience and embark on the transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. Lunch can be enjoyed at Kabalega dinner or Masindi town. Cross with the ferry to the northern section for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Do morning game drive, afternoon Nile boat cruise and hike to the top of the world’s powerful waterfalls

Settle for breakfast at 6am and connect to the park for game drive at 7am. The game drive is carried out in the northern section of the park where a myriad of wild game thrive ranging from the four of the big five land animals namely the elephants, the Buffaloes, the Leopard and the lion and other counts of Rothschild Giraffes, the Jackson’s Hartebeest, the Oribis, the Uganda Kob, the waterbuck and Patas monkey among other species which may be explored on the 3 – 4 hour game drive. You retreat to the lodge for relaxation and lunch after which you gather at Paraa jetty to undertake the Nile launch cruise departing at 2pm. The 2 hour cruise to the bottom of the falls is a recreational and an impressive safari activity that offers you a possibility of viewing the Nile Crocodiles, the Hippos and the shoe bill stork along with other birds that like to dwell close to water. The wild game viewing on the river banks may not be missed. Upon reaching at the bottom of the falls, you embark on the hike to the top of the falls following a challenging narrow path with steep and slippery slopes as you walk past the Nile River mesmerized by its waters splashing out after hitting hard rocks. You connect with the driver guise at the top of the falls and head to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Transfer to Kibale National Park. Whole day drive exploring the scenic countryside

Embark on the whole day transfer to Kibale National Park 441km about 8 hours drive enjoying the scenic landscapes of Uganda’s countryside before approaching Fort Portal and eventually Kibale for relaxation and overnight.

Day 4 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Do Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park & transfer to Kasese

The chimpanzee trekking experience commences at 8am with briefing by the park rangers at Kanyanchu Tourism Center. This is followed by a trek through the forest traversing the prehistoric forest of Kibale noted to have survived the last ice age. The search for the Chimpanzees takes 2 – 5 hours inclusive of one hour of chimpanzee viewing. The possible sights of other wildlife like the Black and white colobus monkeys, Red Colobus, the forest duiker and the range of birds and remarkable flora with trees that are over 55m tall and 200 years old present a supplement exciting experience. Retreat from the encounter and embark on the transfer to Kasese for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5, 6 & 7 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Undertake a 3 day/ 2 night hike to Rwenzori Mountains exploring the Mahoma trail

Day 5: Hike from Ibanda to Omuka Kizza Rest Camp (2977m)

You set off from your lodge after breakfast to start off the trek via the Kyambogho pristine forest overlooking the famous Mubuku Valley. The continuous hike through the forest offers possible views of primates including Black and White Colobus, rare L’hoest Monkey and the Blue Monkey. You settle at Omuka Kizza Rest Camp at 2,977 metres enjoying the remarkable views of the Rwenzori foot hills and the Kasese town at 2,160m below. The sight of the Rwenzori Turaco may not be missed on this trek.

Day 6: Hike from Omuka Kizza to Mahoma Lake

 Embark on the hike to Mahoma Lake after breakfast. You follow the trail through the forest before approaching a narrow ridge covered by moss hiking up to 3,515 metres passing through a beautiful area covered by giant heather forest covered by bright green moss layers. The Mountain elephant footprints traversing the bamboo and heather forest may not be missed and you may be so lucky and encounter them drinking water at the hot spring. The ridge gives way to Rukenga Valley where the everlasting flowers also known as mimulopsis eliotti along with giant lobelia might be explored. You retire for overnight at Mahoma lake camp and if the sky is clear, you enjoy the views of Mount Stanely, Mt Baker along with the Portal Peaks.

Day 7: Transfer from Mahoma Lake to Ibanda

 Take a walk around the lake after breakfast after which you will descend to Ibanda passing through the Nyabitaba ranger post, the Mpanga ridge before adjoining the Mubuku Valley – the home for the three horned Chameleon. Connect to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, embark on the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park enjoying the impressive views of Queen Elizabeth National Park with its good savannah landscape. You may have chances of viewing wild game close to the road. Arrive in Bwindi in the evening for relaxation and overnight.

Day 9 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari:  Do Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park & transfer to Mgahinga National Park

The Mountain Gorilla Trekking is still ranked the best safari activity in Africa and undertaking it in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is very historical since the park features a minimum of 400 mountain gorilla population close to a half of what is known to left in the world (880). The trek commences at 8am at the respective park headquarters and in the company of the ranger guides, you traverse the forest jungle, hiking steep slopes and descending narrow valleys not forgetting crossing the seasonal streams in search of these critically endangered apes. The whole encounter can range from 2 – 8 hours with one full hour of gorilla viewing. Retire from the activity and connect to Mgahinga National Park for evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 10 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Undertake a whole day Volcano climbing – Hike Mount Sabyinyo – the Old Man’s teeth

After breakfast, gather at Ntebeko visitor center to embark on the Sabyinyo Volcano hike 3,669m above sea level lasting about eight hours to cover the 14km round trip. The hike to the Sabyinyo Volcano follows an impressive scenic landscape with the views of the gorge and the forested landscapes. The summit is rather rugged with a swamp filled crater that presents magical hiking encounters as you move from one peak to another offering the views of the surrounding area and beyond. Retreat from the climb to mark the end of the encounter.

Day 11 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari:  Transfer to Kampala. There is a flight option as well

After breakfast, embark on the drive to Kampala 519km about 9 – 10 hours drive enjoying the impressive landscapes of south western Uganda including Kigezi Highlands before making a stop at Igongo Cultural Center 12km past Mbarara town for traditional lunch. You proceed to make another stop at Uganda Equator crossing Kayabwe for amazing photo shoots and water experiments that justify the geographical divide between the northern and southern hemispheres. Arrive in Kampala in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Connect to Entebbe International Airport depending on the flight time and transfer by flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro, you are picked up by our representative and transfer to Mount Kilimannajaro region for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 13 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari:  Hike from Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest
The drive from Arusha to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about one and half hours. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain.
We now leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Lower down, the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. We continue a short distance until we reach the Machame Camp.

Day 14 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Walking Time: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Moorland
After breakfast, we leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley walking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. The route now turns west onto a river gorge.

Accommodation: Overnight:  Shira campsite.

Day 15 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Elevation (m): 3840m to 4630m to 3860m
Elevation (ft): 12,600ft to 12,700ft
Distance: 15 km
Walking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Semi-desert
From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 4,876 meters. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 3,860 meters. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Day 16 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Habitat: Alpine Desert
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco Wall, through the Karanga Valley (lunch at 4200m), and the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Hut. You have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position.

Day 17 of the 22 Days Uganda Tanzania Gorilla, Wildlife & Mountaineering Adventure Safari: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut

Elevation (ft): 15,100ft to 19,300ft (and down to 10,200ft)
Distance: 7km ascent / 23km descent
Hiking Time:6- 8 hours ascent / 7-8 hours descent
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point (5685m), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting).From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all they way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. It can be very cold at night at these elevations, but it will be quite warm by the end of the hiking day. You will want clothing for both extremes with you. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon.
Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).
From the gate, continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you to the hotel for relaxation and overnight.

Undertake a morning game drive on the crater floor descending several meters to explore one of great wildlife concentrations in East Africa. The area has great counts of Maasai lions in Tanzania. The other wildlife includes the endangered black Rhinos, the Buffalo, the Hippos, Blue Wildebeest, Thomson Gazelle, the waterbucks, grants Zebra, Common Eland, leopards among others. You retreat from the tour and embark on the drive to Arusha to mark the end of the tour.
