In an official tweet by the Uganda Wildlife Authority on Aug 10^th, the body had embarked on the process of translocation more twenty (20) Rothschild Giraffes from the northern to the southern sector of the Uganda Safari destination of Murchison Falls National Park.

Apparently, the savannah stretches of northern Murchison Falls National Park famous for their exciting game viewing experience contain the highest population of Rothschild Giraffes in the whole of East Africa. And in a bid to widen the survival base of these amazing animal species always sought after by travellers on Safaris in Uganda, the Uganda Wildlife Authority has made several attempts in re-introducing them in the new areas such as Lake Mburo National Park and the southern sector of Murchison Falls National Park.

This translocation will be a second of its kind with the Giraffes crossing the mighty Nile River to the southern side.

Noted to be the tallest mammal in the world, the Rothschild Giraffe features an outstanding long neck and beautiful coat patterns that make them interesting to explore on Uganda Safaris and tours.    These species thrive in only three parks in Uganda namely; Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley and Lake Mburo National Parks.

In Murchison Falls National Park where the Giraffe translocation is taking place is home to a range of other wildlife including Lions, Leopards, Buffaloes, Elephants, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Defassa waterbuck along with the aquatics of the Nile River like the Nile crocodiles and Hippos. The Shoebill stork – a famous bird species normally sought after by those on Uganda birding safaris and tours also thrives along the Nile River in the same park.

Thus, increasing the Giraffe count to the southern side of the park will in turn enhance the sector vibrancy and stimulate game drive activity which has been limited in this area.
