THE VISIT TO THE TOP OF FAMOUS MURCHISON FALLS; HIKE OR DRIVE? – UGANDA SAFARI NEWS

Our Guests on their trip to Murchision Falls Uganda

Recorded to be the World’s most powerful waterfall, the Murchison Falls is one of the incredible Uganda Safari tour features that come along with adventure and recreation.

Murchison Falls positioned within Murchison Falls Conservation Area forms the greatest natural landmark along the course of the mighty Nile River as it flows from Lake Victoria in East Africa to the Mediterranean Sea in Southern Europe. It derives its name from Sir Roderick Murchison who was the President of the Royal Geographic Society at the time of its discovery by Sir. Samuel Baker a re-known ancient explorer.

The exploration of this amazing natural feature where the Nile River squeezes itself to pass through a less than 7m ravine before falling 43m below to what has been termed as the Devil’s Cauldron forming a plume of spray marked by a thunderous roar and a trade mark rainbow can be done in two ways; hiking and driving.

A traveller on a wildlife safari in Uganda to Murchison Falls National Park can choose either to hike or drive to the top of falls but the concern would be about understanding the difference between the two;

The hike to the top of Murchison Falls involves an active adventure trek following the narrow footpaths along the strong impermeable rocks that have stood in the course of Nile River for Centuries past only allowing it less than 7m ravine.  This makes this option ideal for Uganda tour undertakers with a relative level of physical fitness though slow hikers have also undertook it and managed to finish successfully.  From the bottom of the falls, one disembarks from the boat and starts the incredible sightseeing of the falls straightway up to the top.

The drive to the top of the falls is a traditional activity and has been there for good number decades before the option of the hike was considered. This involves following an established road in one’s comfortable vehicle to the top of the falls. Here, one approaches the falls from the top and enjoys amazing sightseeing experience from there. Senior citizens, disabled travellers and less active travellers on Safaris in Uganda find this option suitable.  The view point offers a panoramic view of the falls and hence good photography and sightseeing experience.

Looking at the cost, the hike to the falls involves an extra $15pp while the drive to the falls in one’s vehicle is free of charge.
