Lake Mburo National park – 5 Days Wildlife Safari Queen Elizabeth Park – Lake Mburo, is a very special place; each part of it is alive with a variety of interests and color. It is situated in Kiruhura district and it is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah National parks. It’s sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and idyllic lake shores has varied mosaic of habitats i.e.; forest galleries, rich acacia tree valleys, seasonal and permanent swamps which all support a wealth of wild life. Its mosaic habitats of dry hillside, rocky outcrops, bushes, thicket, open wooded savannah, forests lakes and swamps are home to surprising diversity of plants and animals. Lake Mburo National Park is famous for its richness in bio diversity. It has about 68 different species of mammals. The common ones are zebras, Impalas, buffaloes, Rothschild giraffes, Topis and eland that are herbivores and leopards, hyenas and jackals that are predators. The park also has 315 different species of birds including the rare Shoebill stork, Papyrus yellow warbler, African fin foot, saddle billed stork, brown chested wattled plover, carruther’s cisticola, great snipe abyssinian ground hornbill and white winged warbler. The woody vegetation of Lake Mburo is dominated by acacia species among other Species.

The Queen Elizabeth National Park is noted to be the most popular destination always encountered on safaris in Uganda and it features diverse eco systems including the shady humid forests, rolling savannah combretum, beautiful lakes along with rich wetlands that makes the park ideal for big game including the four of the big five, the ten (10) Species of Primates and over the 600 bird species which makes it the habitat with the greatest bird Species count in the whole of East Africa. These include among others the eleven (11) Kingfisher Species, shoebill stork species, the range of raptors, eagles and falcons and a range of flamingoes in the crater lakes. The Uganda safari destination of Queen Elizabeth National Park is set up in the Albertine rift flats close to the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains with Margarita peak that rise to 5, 109m above sea level and snowcapped. Park features the magic Katwe explosion crater with counts of crater lakes and crater hollows, the 45km long Kazinga Channel that connect Lakes George and Edward with one of the great Hippo concentrations in the world along with Nile crocodiles and an average of 60 bird species. The savannah stretches support the countless herds of Uganda Kobs, the water bucks, the great herds of African elephant, the Cape Buffalo, lions including the tree climbing lions of Ishasha, the Spotted hyenas, the Africa leopard, the side stripped jackal, olive baboons, the vervet monkeys among other species. 5 Days Wildlife Safari Queen Elizabeth Park – Lake Mburo -These combine to qualify Queen Elizabeth National Park as a medley of wonders.

Drive early morning towards the west from Kampala and have a stopover at the equator for photographs, Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for much of the journey. Have lunch en route at Igongo Cultural Center. A game drive in the evening may reward you with views of Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Buffaloes, Hyenas and a variety of Antelope species such as Kobs and Waterbucks. Retire for dinner and overnight

Day 2 of the 5 Days Wildlife Safari Queen Elizabeth Park – Lake Mburo: Do morning game drive / wild game viewing and afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise

An early morning game drive in this park provides excellent opportunities to encounter Lions, Leopards, Giant Forest Hogs, Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Defassa Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, Topi and Bush bucks and many more. After lunch, enjoy the unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of Hippos and many animals may be seen drinking at the water’s edge. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous with well over 60 resident species along the channel which are part of the greater 600 Species that are resident in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Retire for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

After a very early breakfast, head for the Kyambura gorge for chimpanzee tracking and a variety of primates. Explore the Chimpanzees of Kyambura extension in the gorge that id 100m deep covered with luxurious mature topical forest. The chimp trek lasts 2 hours with one full hour with them. Retreat from the activity and connect to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the evening, go for sightseeing in the crater region – it is a marvel! Visit the Katwe Salt works for a glimpse into traditional salt mining. Retire for overnight.

After Breakfast, drive to L. Mburo NP 180km about 3 hours’ drive. You drive through impressive crater field of Bunyaruguru with good scenic views before approaching Mbarara town – the largest in the sub region to explore the life of the local Ugandans and how they figure out with all sorts of businesses. You proceed to branch off at Biharwe where you can get out of your vehicles and undertake a hill climbing adventure upon reaching the top; you enjoy the beautiful design of the 1520AD eclipse Monument which do not only commemorate the total solar eclipse but also the repossession of cows among the Banyankole since the eclipse forced the King of Bunyoro and his men to abandon the cows they had raided from Rwanda at the site. Banyankole thought after the eclipse the cows had fell from heaven and named them “enduga mwiguru”. It was a great moment for them since they had suffered from serious starvation following the raid of their cattle by the King of Bunyoro. You proceed to Igongo Cultural Center for the tour to the cultural museum that feature collections of the tribes of south western Uganda, the sculptures of historical people and cow before settling for lunch at its remarkable Kahwa Kanuzire restaurant. Proceed to Lake Mburo National Park 33km from Igongo, enter through Nshaara gate and connect to Lake Mburo for an afternoon boat cruise where you have opportunity to explore counts of Hippos and Nile crocodiles. The views of the white crested African fish eagle along with other birds may not be mussed. Retire for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5 of the 5 Days Wildlife Safari Queen Elizabeth Park – Lake Mburo: Undertake a game walking safari and transfer to Kampala

After early breakfasts, you are off for an early morning game walking safari that offers a possible wonderful encounter with the Zebras, Waterbucks, Buffaloes, Topis, Elands, Rothschild giraffes, Leopards, and a variety of bird species. After the game drive Head to Kampala having lunch at the Equator route, continue on the drive to Kampala and make another stop at the Mpambire Royal Drum Makers. Here you will be able to watch the ceremonial drums being crafted using methods passed down through generations.
