Scientifically referred to as Muscicapa sethsmithi, the Yellow-footed fly catcher belongs to Muscicapidae family and is one of the impressive birds species explored on birding safaris in Uganda.

The Yellow-footed flycatcher extends to 10.5cm in length and weighs about 8 – 10g. The head and underparts along with ear-coverts, the side of the scapulars and the neck are dark bluish slate-grey as viewed while on Uganda birding safaris and tours.

The habitat of the Yellow-footed fly catcher includes a primary lowland forest along with old secondary growth majorly with new clearings and openings.  It feeds on tiny flying insects less than 10mm in length but can as well consume some large flies. The behavior of the Yellow-footed fly catcher is among those things that excite the world travelers on safari in Uganda.

The yellow-footed fly catcher thrives mainly in the Sub Saharan Africa including Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria. Regarding conservation, the yellow-footed fly catcher is listed as species of Least Concern on the red list of the International union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)
